The term stellar wind is used nowadays to describe any more or less continuous mass loss from a star. With the observations made with satellites in recent years it is becoming clear that most stars are undergoing this form of mass loss, though its magnitude can be very different from one star to another.

Three topics of current interest are treated in this review:a)The success and shortcomings of dynamo models for the solar cycle are explained, and oscillator models discussed briefly.b)The intermittent (flux tube) nature of magnetic fields in convection zones leads to new conjectures about stellar dynamos.

Commission 36: Theory of Stellar Atmospheres [PDF]
Commission 36 covers all the physics of stellar atmospheres. The scientific activity in this large field has been very intense during the last triennium and led to the publication of a large number of papers which makes an exhaustive report practically not feasible. As a consequence we decided to keep the format of the preceding report: first a list of

Collisionless microinstabilities in stellarators II - numerical simulations [PDF]
Microinstabilities exhibit a rich variety of behavior in stellarators due to the many degrees of freedom in the magnetic geometry. It has recently been found that certain stellarators (quasi-isodynamic ones with maximum-$J$ geometry) are partly resilient

An Enhanced Evaluation Method of Sequential Probability Ratio Test
Accurate event detection has high priority in many technical applications. Events in acquired data series, their duration, and statistical parameters provide useful information about the observed system and about its current state. This information can be used for condition monitoring, state identification, and many kinds of forecasting as well.

Design of transverse magnetic field sweeping solenoids for 140 GHz mega‐watt gyrotrons
As the overlarge power density at the collector of mega‐watt (MW) gyrotrons limits the increase in their average output power and pulse width, transverse magnetic field sweeping solenoids (TMFSS) with periodical changing magnetic field have been designed for a 140 GHz MW gyrotron developed and tested at Beijing Vacuum Electronics Research Institute ...

Impurity transport and bulk ion flow in a mixed collisionality stellarator plasma
The accumulation of impurities in the core of magnetically confined plasmas, resulting from standard collisional transport mechanisms, is a known threat to their performance as fusion energy sources.

Review on Recent Developments in Laser Driven Inertial Fusion
Discovery of the laser in 1960 hopes were based on using its very high energy concentration within very short pulses of time and very small volumes for energy generation from nuclear fusion as “Inertial Fusion Energy” (IFE), parallel to the efforts to produce energy from “Magnetic Confinement Fusion” (MCF), by burning deuterium‐tritium (DT) in high ...
