A modified low-dose paratracheal approach to stellate ganglion block at the C6 level prevents the possible complications of subarachnoid introduction of large quantities of local anesthetic, brachial plexus block, and toxic reaction to local anesthetics. It is a technically simple procedure with readily identifiable landmarks and can be performed on an

A Complication of Stellate Ganglion Block?
Pain Practice, 2004Abstract: Stellate ganglion block is commonly used to treat the sympathetically maintained pain which may occur in one‐third of patients with complex regional pain syndrome type 1. A complication that followed a single block and presented a diagnostic dilemma for the ophthalmologist is reported.

Stellate ganglion block in apoplexy
The Irish Journal of Medical Science, 1951Six cases of apoplexy were treated by this method. Two were cases of cerebral haemorrhage, two of embolism, and two of thrombosis. In all cases except those of cerebral haemorrhage, there was some improvement following stellate block which helped in recovery.

Stellate ganglion refers to the confluence of inferior cervical and the first thoracic sympathetic ganglia. Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is performed for the management of a variety of pain conditions, including complex regional pain syndrome, refractory angina, and ischemic pain in the upper limb from peripheral vascular disease [7, 24, 25].

Physicians first began performing blocks of the sympathetic nervous system almost 100 years ago. In 1920, the cervicothoracic block was described and performed for the differential diagnosis of abdominal pain. Subsequently, sympathetic blocks, including stellate blocks, were used for the treatment of several pain syndromes.
