Contractions of the squid stellate ganglion [PDF]
ABSTRACTOptical recording methods were used to characterize the intrinsic movements of squid stellate ganglia. Ganglionic contractions were rhythmic and occurred at a mean frequency of 8 min−1. Contractions were eliminated when Na+ in the external saline were replaced by Tris, but were only slowed when Na+ was replaced by sucrose. This suggests that Na+

Pathology-Dependent Histological Changes of the Left Stellate Ganglia: A Cadaveric Study
Sympathetic hyperinnervation due to nerve sprouting generated by the left stellate ganglion has been noted following cardiopulmonary disease processes. Sympathetic hyperinnervation seems to be limited to cardiopulmonary diseases in the experimental and ...

Effects of Stellate Ganglion Block on Healing of Fractures Induced in Rats [PDF]
Objective. Sympathetic blocks are used as an adjunct for pain management in the treatment of orthopedic and traumatic conditions. Stellate ganglion (ganglion stellatum) provides sympathetic innervation of the head, neck and cervicothoracic regions, and ...

Sudden cardiac deaths have higher proportion of left stellate ganglionitis
One of the hypothesized mechanisms of sudden cardiac death in humans is an arrhythmia precipitated by increased sympathetic outflow to a compromised heart.
