Stellate ganglion block in apoplexy

The Irish Journal of Medical Science, 1951
Six cases of apoplexy were treated by this method. Two were cases of cerebral haemorrhage, two of embolism, and two of thrombosis. In all cases except those of cerebral haemorrhage, there was some improvement following stellate block which helped in recovery.

Abstract The stellate ganglion consists of sympathetic fibers that predominate the upper extremity face and intracranial vault. It lies anterior to the C7 tubercle and T1 transverse process. The stellate ganglion can be blocked by a variety of approaches, most commonly an approach at C6 Chassaignac's tubercle is used.

As an appendix to this monographic study on the brachial plexus block techniques performed in order to obtain anesthesia of the upper extremities, we feel it is appropriate to include this chapter on the stellate ganglion (SG) block. This block has no surgical indications, but only postoperative, medical and pain therapy indications.
