Inter-population movements of steller sea lions in Alaska with implications for population separation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Genetic studies and differing population trends support the separation of Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) into a western distinct population segment (WDPS) and an eastern DPS (EDPS) with the dividing line between populations at 144° W.

To morphological description of cardiovascular system in pinnipeds (Pinnipedia)

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2015
Morphometric parameters of the heart, the absolute and relative caliber of the aortic arch and the major arterial trunks are determined for northern fur seal Callorhinus ursinus , Steller sea lion Eumetopias jubatus , spotted seal Phoca largha , harbor ...

Dive behaviour can predict metabolic expenditure in Steller sea lions [PDF]

open access: yesConservation Physiology, 2015
Quantification of costs associated with foraging contributes to understanding the energetic impact that changes in prey availability have on the energy balance of an animal and the fitness of populations. However, estimating the costs of foraging is difficult for breath-hold divers, such as Steller sea lions, that feed underwater.

POXVIRUS INFECTION OF STELLER SEA LIONS (EUMETOPIAS JUBATUS) IN ALASKA [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Wildlife Diseases, 2005
Lesions suggestive of poxvirus infection were observed in two Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) in Alaska during live capture-and-release studies during 2000 and 2001. Both of these animals, female pups in poor body condition, were from Prince William Sound; this population is part of the declining western stock.

Long-term remote monitoring of the rookery of Eumetopias jubatus (Pinnipedia, Otariidae) on Matykil Island in the Magadan State Nature Reserve (Russia)

open access: yesNature Conservation Research: Заповедная наука
The severe decline in the number of Eumetopias jubatus (hereinafter – Steller sea lion) almost throughout the entire range has drawn the public attention to monitor the abundance and increase in research activity of the species.

The Threatened Status of Steller Sea Lions, Eumetopias jubatus, under the Endangered Species Act: Effects on Alaska Groundfish Fisheries Management [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
In April 1990, the Steller sea lion, Eumetopias jubatus, was listed as threatened under the U.S. Endangered Species Act by emergency action. Competitive interactions with the billion-dollar Alaska commercial groundfish fisheries have been suggested as ...

Juvenile Steller sea lion dive behavior following temporary captivity [PDF]

open access: yesEndangered Species Research, 2008
Wild-caught juvenile Steller sea lions Eumetopias jubatus (n = 21) were maintained in temporary captivity for up to 12 wk to investigate health, disease, nutrition and behavior. We assessed the effects of captivity on post-release dive behavior and movement of each animal using externally mounted satellite data recorders.

Food habits of Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) off Oregon and northern California, 1986–2007 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We described the diet of the eastern stock of Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) from 1416 scat samples collected from five sites in Oregon and northern California from 1986 through 2007.

Facilitative interspecific interactions in marine vertebrates across scales: from individuals to ecosystems

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 1, Page 519-538, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Facilitative interspecific interactions (FIIs) confer benefits to at least one participant without detriment to others. Although often less emphasised than antagonistic interactions in ecological studies, this review highlights the significant ecological role of FIIs across biological scales – from individual behaviours to population ...

Diets of Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) in Southeast Alaska, 1993−1999 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The diet of Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) was determined from 1494 scats (feces) collected at breeding (rookeries) and nonbreeding (haulout) sites in Southeast Alaska from 1993 to 1999.
