Stem cell therapy without the cells
As an example of the burgeoning importance of stem cell therapy, this past month the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) has approved $70 million to create a new network of stem cell clinical trial centers. Much work in the last decade has been devoted to developing the use of autologous and allogeneic adult stem cell transplants to ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Impact of Short-Term Liquid Storage on Human CD133 Stem Cells
Stem cell transplantation is a viable strategy for regenerative medicine. However, it is inevitable to have cells undergo storage for several hours or days due to processing and transportation.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

LIN28 Regulates Stem Cell Metabolism and Conversion to Primed Pluripotency
The RNA-binding proteins LIN28A and LIN28B play critical roles in embryonic development, tumorigenesis, and pluripotency, but their exact functions are poorly understood.

Adult stem cell sources for skeletal and smooth muscle tissue engineering
Introduction Tissue engineering is an innovative field with enormous developments in recent years. These advances are not only in the understanding of how stem cells can be isolated, cultured and manipulated but also in their potential for clinical ...

Stem Cell Therapy in Perspective [PDF]
The concept of regenerative medicine using the body’s own stem cells and growth factors to repair tissues may become a reality as new basic science works and initial clinical experiences have “teamed-up” in an effort to develop alternative therapeutic strategies to treat the diseased myocardium.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
