A new girth band for measuring stem diameter changes [PDF]

open access: yesForestry, 2004
Summary A simple girth band for automatic measurement of short-term changes in stem diameter was developed and tested. Laboratory tests showed that the girth band is thermal insensitive and it can be used for measuring changes of the magnitude of 0.03 mm.

Substrate Stress Relaxation Regulates Cell‐Mediated Assembly of Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Silicone‐based viscoelastic substrates with tunable stress relaxation reveal how matrix mechanics regulates cellular mechanosensing and cell‐mediated matrix remodelling in the stiff regime. High stress relaxation promotes assembly of fibronectin fibril‐like structures, increased nuclear localization of YAP and formation of β1 integrin‐enriched ...

The level of occlusion of included bark affects the strength of bifurcations in hazel (Corylus avellana L.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Bark-included junctions in trees are considered a defect as the bark weakens the union between the branches. To more accurately assess this weakening effect, 241 bifurcations from young specimens of hazel (Corylus avellana L.), of which 106 had bark ...

Defect Analysis of the β– to γ–Ga2O3 Phase Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The role of defects at all the relevant stages of the β$\beta$‐ to γ$\gamma$‐Ga2O3 polymorph transition is investigated using a multi method approach. The positron annihilation spectroscopy based results show that the defect density decreases after the transition, and that changes in defect configuration within the γ phase occur with increasing ...

Impact of liquid biofertilizer from cocoa shells on the growth and chlorophyll content of sweet peppers (Capsicum chinense L.) in San Martín, Peru

open access: yesFrontiers in Agronomy
The growth and yield of sweet peppers are constrained by factors such as fertilization practices and edaphoclimatic conditions, which ultimately threaten global food security in the context of an ever-growing population.

Cryo‐EM of Rationally Designed Photosystem I Nanoassembly on Graphene Validates Orientation‐Driven Enhancement of Photocatalytic Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The first cryo‐EM visualization and quantification of oriented Photosystem I (PSI) on single‐layer graphene is reported. Domain‐specific covalent anchoring of PSI, with the reducing side of the biophotocatalyst toward graphene, promotes three‐fold higher anodic photocurrent generation compared to a randomly physisorbed counterpart. This approach allows

Effect of Orifice Length-Diameter Ratio on Spray Characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes
The effect of variations of orifice length to diameter ratio on spray characteristics was determined for a 0.014-inch and a 0.040-inch orifice for ratio of 0.5 to 4.0. The nozzles containing the orifices were mounted in an injection valve and tested with
