Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Relationships Between Midday Stem Water Potential and Soil Water Content in Grapevines and Peach and Pear Trees

open access: yesAgronomy
Monitoring the water status of fruit orchards is required to optimize crop water management and determine irrigation scheduling. For this purpose, capacitance probes are commonly used to measure soil water content (θs). However, when these probes are not

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Slip Localization Intensification Mediated by Grain Boundary Sliding in a Polycrystalline Nickel‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The temperature dependence of fatigue behavior in nickel‐based superalloys is investigated through high‐resolution measurements of plastic localization. While increasing temperature reduces localization and enhances fatigue performance in René 88DT, Inconel 718 exhibits a sharp degradation at intermediate temperature due to intensified slip ...

Upgrading and validating a soil water balance model to predict stem water potential in vineyards

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Meteorology
Efficient water management is pivotal for viticulture sustainability. Decision support tools can advise on how to optimize irrigation or on the feasibility of growing grapes in rainfed conditions, but reliable algorithms for assessing vine water status are required. In this context, the aim of the current study was to upgrade a soil water balance model

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Branch Orientation: A Potential Indicator of Stem Rehydration and Water Stress

open access: yesHydrological Processes
ABSTRACT Spring rehydration in snow‐covered temperate forests marks a key ecohydrological transition, influencing forest productivity and water balance. Tree water deficit is a key ecohydrological indicator about above ground water status and response to subsurface water availability.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Contrasting Osmotic Stress Responses and Provenance Effects on Seed Germination and Seedling Performance in Two Andean Species

open access: yesPlant-Environment Interactions
The Andes are currently experiencing prolonged and frequent drought events presenting significant challenges to the natural ecosystems. This study examines how seed provenance and osmotic stress influence germination (radicle and cotyledon emergence) and
