ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Management in the Era of COVID-19: A Systematic and Critical Review of Published Guidance Reports

open access: yesReviews in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) had a major impact on healthcare systems worldwide. During the early phase of the pandemic many elective procedures were postponed. At the same time, the safe and effective management of medical emergencies

The 10th Biennial Hatter Cardiovascular Institute workshop: cellular protection—evaluating new directions in the setting of myocardial infarction, ischaemic stroke, and cardio-oncology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Due to its poor capacity for regeneration, the heart is particularly sensitive to the loss of contractile cardiomyocytes. The onslaught of damage caused by ischaemia and reperfusion, occurring during an acute myocardial infarction and the subsequent ...

Differences in mortality and causes of death between STEMI and NSTEMI in the early and late phases after acute myocardial infarction

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Background The detailed causes of death in non–ST-segment–elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) have not been adequately evaluated compared to those in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Characterization of Macro/Microstructure and Corrosion Resistance of Austenitic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Cladding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cladding is a proven method that boosts the surface qualities of mechanical parts by applying a layer of more durable material over a base substrate. This work responds to the needs of offshore and pressure vessels sectors by focusing on cladding a super austenitic steel onto low‐carbon steel through gas tungsten arc welding.

Myocardial Injury after Noncardiac Surgery: A Case Report of Acute Chest Pain and Elevated Troponin Levels, Challenges and Management Strategies

open access: yesJAI (Jurnal Anestesiologi Indonesia)
Background: Perioperative myocardial injury is a common complication following noncardiac surgery, linked to significant morbidity and mortality. With over 300 million surgeries performed worldwide annually, this number has increased by more than 100 ...

Timing of Complete Revascularization in Patients with STEMI and Multivessel Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

open access: yesReviews in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
Background: About half of patients with ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) have multivessel coronary artery disease (MVD). Our aim was to provide a quantitative comparison of single-stage complete revascularization during the index ...

Myocardial Ischemia and Reperfusion Leads to Transient CD8 Immune Deficiency and Accelerated Immunosenescence in CMV-Seropositive Patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Rationale: There is mounting evidence of a higher incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) in cytomegalovirus (CMV) seropositive individuals. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate whether acute MI triggers an inflammatory T-cell ...

High levels of interleukin-6 are associated with final infarct size and adverse clinical events in patients with STEMI

open access: yesOpen Heart, 2021
Objective Inflammation has emerged as a new treatment target in patients with coronary artery disease and inflammation seems to play an important role in ischaemia/reperfusion injury that follows ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Formation of Stable Amorphous Calcium Phosphate and Collagen Assemblies by a Versatile Spray‐Drying Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) microparticles with long‐term and thermal stability are prepared with or without collagen using a scalable one‐pot spray‐drying process. Under simulated physiological conditions, they crystallize into biomimetic bone mineral and, when combined with collagen, form extrudable, fibrillar bone‐like 3D constructs.
