Systemic Herpesvirus and Morbillivirus Co-Infection in a Striped Dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba)
Journal of Comparative Pathology, 2012During 2007 a dolphin morbillivirus epizootic affected the western Mediterranean and several striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) stranded on the Catalonian coasts. One of those animals had severe lymphoid depletion, necrosis and syncytial formation in lymph nodes and spleen, with large basophilic nuclear inclusions compatible with herpesvirus ...

The External and Middle Ear of the Striped Dolphin Stenella coeruleoalba (Meyen 1833)
Anatomia, Histologia, Embryologia, 2006SummaryThe ear of cetaceans, and especially the middle ear, is very different from that of terrestrial mammals and shows specific adaptations to diving. Our research, performed on six Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) stranded along the Italian coasts of the Mediterranean Sea, concentrated on the morphology of the external and middle ear of this

Fatal hepatic sarcocystosis was diagnosed in a striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) from the northeastern Spanish Mediterranean coast based on pathologic findings and the microscopic and ultrastructural characteristics of the intralesional parasite. Main gross lesions were icterus, subcutaneous hemorrhages, and hepatic congestion. The most prominent

Micro- and macro-geographic variations of the whistles of striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba)
2012Stenella coeruleoalba, a cosmopolitan species distributed in tropical and temperate pelagic waters, is an extremely vocal dolphin with wide acoustic repertoire. This study analyses the geographic variability of the acoustic parameters of whistles between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, taking into account the intra basin variation ...

Assessment of thyrrenian seamounts attractiveness on Stenella coeruleoalba.
2015In the framework of the PROMETEOS project, 64 seamounts were identified in Tyrrhenian Sea and specific morphological characteristics have been calculated for each seamount. Random Forest regression technique has been applied to striped dolphin distribution aiming at assessing importance and effect of seamounts on this species.
