A whole‐genome assembly of St. Augustinegrass and visualizing diversity within the species [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Genome
St. Augustinegrass [Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) Kuntze] is a warm‐season turfgrass species in the family Poaceae. This species is a popular choice for lawns in the Southern United States, due to its higher tolerance to shade, heat and humidity ...

Phenotypic performance, production, and nutritional quality of Stenotaphrum secundatum var. Steno Agrinak

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science
Abstract Stenotaphrum secundatum var. Steno Agrinak is a superior shade tolerant grass with good phenotypic appearance, high production along with good nutritional quality. This grass was obtained through a breeding program for vegetative (clonal) plants using the positive mass selection method from 2016 to 2018 ...

Detection of quantitative trait loci associated with drought tolerance in St. Augustinegrass. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
St. Augustinegrass (Stenotaphrum secundatum) is a warm-season grass species commonly utilized as turf in the southeastern US. Improvement in the drought tolerance of St. Augustinegrass has significant value within the turfgrass industry.

Absence of Variable Fluorescence from Guard Cell Chloroplasts of Stenotaphrum secundatum [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1988
The lack of detectable variable fluorescence from guard cell chloroplasts in both the albino and green portions of variegated leaves of St. Augustine grass (Stenotaphrum secundatum var variegatum A.S. Hitchc.) is reported. Fluorescence was measured either with a highly sensitive, modified fluorescence microscope which was capable of recording ...

Sugarcane mosaic virus infects Stenotaphrum secundatum in Australia [PDF]

open access: yesAustralasian Plant Disease Notes, 2020
This study presents the first report of sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV) infecting Stenotaphrum secundatum (buffalo grass) in Australia, from a turf farm in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales. The plant displayed mosaic symptoms and contained flexuous, filamentous virions of 700-750 x 10-11 nm typical of members of the genus Potyvirus.

St. Augustinegrass for Florida Lawns

open access: yesEDIS, 2021
St. Augustinegrass (Stenotaphrum secundatum [Walt.] Kuntze) is widely adapted to the warm, humid (subtropical) regions of the world. It is believed to be native to the coastal regions of both the Gulf of Mexico and the Mediterranean. St.

Grass functional traits reflect the long history of fire and grazers in the savannas of Texas. [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Bot
Abstract Premise Understanding relationships among grass traits, fire, and herbivores may help improve conservation strategies for savannas that are threatened by novel disturbance regimes. Emerging theory, developed in Africa, emphasizes that functional traits of savanna grasses reflect the distinct ways that fire and grazers consume biomass ...
