ABSTRACT Many insects harbour microbial communities that can profoundly influence the biology of their host. Yet, the relative contribution of random exposure (i.e., stochastic) events and deterministic ecological factors in shaping these communities remains unclear for most taxa.

Manganese is a contaminant in the wastewaters produced by Brazilian mining operations, and the removal of the metal is notoriously difficult because of the high stability of the Mn(II) ion in aqueous solutions. To explore a biological approach for removing excessive amounts of aqueous Mn(II), we investigated the potential of Mn(II) oxidation by both ...

ABSTRACT Introduction Esophageal perforation (EP) is a rare but life‐threatening condition, and most cases are due to iatrogenic causes. The rest occur spontaneously, due to malignancies, or trauma. The mortality rates can approach 50%, and delayed diagnosis of EP exacerbates patient outcomes.

Cultivation of Electrogens With Cost‐Effective Membrane‐Less Bioreactor Designs
ABSTRACT Rational improvements in bioreactor design for scaling up power generation in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are discussed in this study. The potential of autoclavable MFCs for isolating electroactive bacteria that produce sustainable electricity is being investigated.

Abstract The advance of industrialization and globalization has been deteriorating nature by introducing components that compromise the holistic functioning of the environment. Plastics and heavy metals are widely integrated into our daily lives, and both production and consumption generate waste whose final disposal is not adequately managed ...

Stenotrophomonas sp. strain WO2
Stenotrophomonas sp. strain WO2 was isolated from deep-sea sediments at the Haima cold seep (South China Sea) using crude oil as the sole carbon source. The draft genome 4,772,190 bp with a G+C content of 66.01%, which could provide a microbial resource for studying hydrocarbon degradation in cold-seep ecosystems.
