Physical Intelligence in Small‐Scale Robots and Machines

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Physical intelligence” (PI) empowers biological organisms and artificial machines, especially at the small scales, to perceive, adapt, and even reshape their complex, dynamic, and unstructured operation environments. This review summarizes recent milestones and future directions of PI in small‐scale robots and machines.

Steerable antegrade stenting: a new trick of the trade

open access: yesInternational Brazilian Journal of Urology, 2007
INTRODUCTION: Whereas a retrograde attempt to insert an indwelling stent is performed in lithotomy position, usually renal access is gained in a prone position.

3D Anodic Alumina Nanoarchitectures: A Decade of Progress from Foundational Science to Functional Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ordered three‐dimensional anodic aluminum oxide (3D‐AAO) nanoarchitectures with longitudinal and transverse pores enable architecture‐driven metamaterials. The review maps fabrication advances, including hybrid pulse anodization, and shows how 3D‐AAO templates tailor properties across magnetism, energy, catalysis, and sensing.

Endothelial Cytotoxicity of Drug‐Doped Polypyrrole Coatings on Biodegradable Iron for Stent Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Electrochemically deposited polypyrrole coatings doped with salicylate and dexamethasone are tested on iron substrates. Their safety for biological use is confirmed in vitro with human endothelial cells. Abstract Conducting polymers, such as polypyrrole (PPy), are promising coatings for biodegradable vascular implants due to their electrical ...

Nickel ions from a corroded cardiovascular stent induce monocytic cell apoptosis: Proposed impact on vascular remodeling and mechanism

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2015
Monocytes play important roles in inflammatory responses and vascular remodeling after vascular stenting. This research focused on impacts of nickel (Ni) ions released from a corroded cardiovascular stent on cytotoxicity and monocyte activation. Methods:

Rotary 4D Printing of Programmable Metamaterials on Sustainable 4D Mandrel

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The paper introduces open, rotary 4D printing of programmable tubular metamaterials. It presents an open, non‐planar path‐to‐G‐code pipeline and shape‐changing rotary mandrel that enable support‐free fabrication and multi‐stimuli actuation. Experiments and FEA validate the mentioned features and stress redistribution.

Effect of a Flared Renal Stent on the Performance of Fenestrated Stent-Grafts at Rest and Exercise Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Purpose: To quantify the hemodynamic impact of a flared renal stent on the performance of fenestrated stent-grafts (FSGs) by analyzing flow patterns and wall shear stress–derived parameters in flared and nonflared FSGs in different physiologic scenarios.
