Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Liquid level measurement using a coplanar transmission line

open access: yes, 1988
Bibliography: leaves 93-94.The coplanar line has been used very successfully as an element in microwave circuits. Small size, high Q-factor, and accurate reproduction, are some of its many advantages.

Design of an Additively-Manufactured Self-Supported All-Metal Coaxial-Line X-Band Bandpass Filter

open access: yesIEEE Access
In this contribution, the design and manufacturing of an all-metal coaxial-line X-band bandpass filter is discussed. The device is 3D-printed as a self-supported structure without any dielectric inside the coaxial.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Quantifying Siting Difficulty: A Case Study of U.S. Transmission Line Siting [PDF]

open access: yes
The worldwide demand for new energy infrastructures has been paralleled in recent years by the increasing difficulty of siting major facilities. Siting difficulty is the subject of widespread discussion, but because of the complexity of the problem ...

Slip Localization Intensification Mediated by Grain Boundary Sliding in a Polycrystalline Nickel‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The temperature dependence of fatigue behavior in nickel‐based superalloys is investigated through high‐resolution measurements of plastic localization. While increasing temperature reduces localization and enhances fatigue performance in René 88DT, Inconel 718 exhibits a sharp degradation at intermediate temperature due to intensified slip ...

Applying A New Methodology To Verify Transmission Line Model Performance - The Equivalent Impedance Test

open access: yes, 2015
The objective of this paper is to present a methodology to analyze a transmission line model used in electromagnetic transitory simulators, called equivalent impedance test. Initially the definition of equivalent impedance reference test is shown.
