Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Fractal Analysis of Laplacian Pyramidal Filters Applied to Segmentation of Soil Images

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
The laplacian pyramid is a well-known technique for image processing in which local operators of many scales, but identical shape, serve as the basis functions. The required properties to the pyramidal filter produce a family of filters, which is unipara

USING MORPHLET-BASED IMAGE REPRESENTATION FOR OBJECT DETECTION [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2016
In this paper, we propose an original method for objects detection based on a special tree-structured image representation – the trees of morphlets. The method provides robust detection of various types of objects in an image without employing a machine ...

Von Economo Neuron Loss in Frontotemporal Dementia: A Meta‐Analysis of Neuropathological Studies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Von Economo neurons (VENs) have been reported to be vulnerable to neurodegeneration in frontotemporal dementia (FTD), particularly the behavioral variant (bvFTD), but these findings have not been systematically assessed across independent brain banks.

Inverted pyramid structures fabricated on monocrystalline silicon surface with a NaOH solution

open access: yesHeliyon
Low-cost aqueous alkaline etching has been widely adopted for monocrystalline silicon surface texturing in current industrial silicon solar cells. However, conventional alkaline etching can only prepare upright pyramid structures on mono-crystalline ...

A True Pyramid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The term pyramid is used in two ways in logology: 1) a word pyramid is a word ladder in which each step adds a letter -eg, I IN FIN FIND FIEND FRIEND; 2) a pyramid word has an abstract \u27pyramid\u27 of letter frequencies -eg, REMEMBERER with 1B ...

Selective Refinement Network for High Performance Face Detection

open access: yes, 2018
High performance face detection remains a very challenging problem, especially when there exists many tiny faces. This paper presents a novel single-shot face detector, named Selective Refinement Network (SRN), which introduces novel two-step ...

Formation and Evolution of Single Molecule Junctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We analyze the formation and evolution statistics of single molecule junctions bonded to gold electrodes using amine, methyl sulfide and dimethyl phosphine link groups by measuring conductance as a function of junction elongation.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.
