Stereo ranging with verging cameras

A method of computing absolute range from stereo disparities by using verging cameras is presented. The approach differs from others by concentrating, through both analysis and experiment, on the effects caused by convergence, rather than on the general camera calibration problem.

This work reports a microprism array (MPA) based compact stereo endoscopic camera with a single image sensor. The MPAs were monolithically fabricated by using two-step photolithography and geometry-guided resist reflow to form an appropriate prism angle for stereo image pair formation.
