This chapter addresses the need for the aseptic operation of fermentation processes and the procedures adopted to achieve it—the sterilization of the process plant, the medium and air supply. The kinetics and scale-up of medium sterilization by wet heat are discussed in terms of specific death rate (k), Del factor (▿), and nutrient quality criterion (Q)

The Attitudes of Sterilized Women to Contraceptive Sterilization

Six years after their sterilization, 206 of 216 consecutively sterilized women were interviewed. Included in the semistructured interview was a series of questions about their more general attitudes to tubal sterilization. Half of the women considered the early thirties the appropriate age for contraceptive sterilization.
