Magnetic Field‐Assisted Conductive Nerve Guidance Conduit Enabling Peripheral Nerve Regeneration with Wireless Electrical Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a conductive nerve guidance conduit integrated with wireless electrical stimulation through alternating magnetic fields, which induces currents and creates a supportive microenvironment for nerve regeneration. In vivo studies show that this approach significantly enhanced myelin restoration, gastrocnemius muscle regeneration ...

When acting as a reproductive barrier for sympatric speciation, hybrid sterility can only be primary [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In many animals parental gametes unite to form a zygote that develops into an adult with gonads that, in turn, produce gametes. Interruption of this germinal cycle by prezygotic or postzygotic reproductive barriers can result in two independent cycles, each with the potential to evolve into a new species.

Conducting Polymer Microelectrode Arrays for Simultaneous Electrophysiology and Advanced Brain Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A flexible micro‐electrocorticography array with PEDOT:SS electrodes is shown to be compatible with ultra‐high magnetic field MRI up to 9.4 T. Multimodal brain monitoring is demonstrated by performing simultaneous blood oxygen level‐dependent functional MRI in parallel with electrophysiology.

Salt Sensitive Tet-Off-Like Systems to Knockdown Primordial Germ Cell Genes for Repressible Transgenic Sterilization in Channel Catfish, Ictalurus punctatus

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2017
Repressible knockdown approaches were investigated for transgenic sterilization in channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus. Two primordial germ cell (PGC) marker genes, nanos and dead end, were targeted for knockdown, and an off-target gene, vasa, was ...

Single neonatal estrogen implant sterilizes female animals by decreasing hypothalamic KISS1 expression

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Reproductive sterilization by surgical gonadectomy is strongly advocated to help manage animal populations, especially domesticated pets, and to prevent reproductive behaviors and diseases.

An estimate of the average number of recessive lethal mutations carried by humans [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
The effects of inbreeding on human health depend critically on the number and severity of recessive, deleterious mutations carried by individuals. In humans, existing estimates of these quantities are based on comparisons between consanguineous and non-consanguineous couples, an approach that confounds socioeconomic and genetic effects of inbreeding ...

Deletion of Dicer in Somatic Cells of the Female Reproductive Tract Causes Sterility [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Endocrinology, 2008
AbstractDicer is an evolutionarily conserved ribonuclease III that is necessary for microRNA (miRNA) processing and the synthesis of small interfering RNAs from long double-stranded RNA. Although it has been shown that Dicer plays important roles in the mammalian germline and early embryogenesis, the functions of Dicer-dependent pathways in the somatic
