Co‐Occurring Non‐Cardiac Congenital Anomalies Among Cases With Congenital Heart Defects

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cases with congenital heart defects (CHD) often have other associated anomalies. The aim of this investigation was to assess the prevalence and the types of co‐occurring anomalies in CHD in a well‐defined population. The anomalies co‐occurring with CHD were ascertained in all live births, stillbirths and terminations of pregnancy for fetal ...

Bone: Radiation Fibrosis of Sternum

open access: yes, 1900
Radiation fibrosis of sternum. Much scarring is present in the soft tissues surrounding the sternum (large arrows). The abnormality of the bone of the sternum itself (small arrows) is attributed to a "growth deformity".

Phosphoryl Radicals from Trivalent Iminyl Phosphines: A Photocatalytic Approach to N‐Phosphoryl Azetidines

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Photochemically generated phosphoryl radicals from iminyl phosphines enable strain‐release addition to azabicyclobutanes, providing access to elusive N‐phosphoryl azetidines. Combined experimental, computational, and EPR studies reveal an unconventional water‐assisted photoredox pathway.

Chrysin alleviates pressure overload–induced myocardial remodeling through regulating the PI3K/AKT/NRF2 pathway–mediated oxidative stress response

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
In this study, we primarily simulated pathological myocardial remodeling induced by transverse aortic constriction surgery and found significant cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis, characterized by deteriorated cardiac function. Oxidative stress response is considered as a pivotal pathological process, which contributes to inflammation and apoptosis of ...

Mechanical coupling between the ribs and sternum in the dog

open access: yes, 1985
We measured the axial (cranio-caudal) displacements of the sternum and the second and seventh bony ribs using linear displacement transducers in five supine anesthetized dogs during passive inflation and deflation, during quiet breathing and static ...

A novel rat model of pulmonary artery embolism and the application value of lung ultrasound B‐lines in early‐stage pulmonary embolism

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
We report a novel embolus‐induced PE rat model prepared via the inferior vena cava under ultrasound guidance. The embolus employed featured a tubular plastic casing filled with thrombus. By minimizing the contact surface between plasmin and thrombus, it effectively restrains the elevated plasmin activity in rats.
