Response of an Aluminum Stiffened Plate Under Extreme Slamming Loadings1

Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, 2019
The slamming phenomenon often occurs when the bottom of a ship hits the seawater with a relatively high velocity in irregular waves. In extreme sea conditions, the slam-induced dynamic loads can be quite large resulting in local structural damages and/or

Effects of T-Stress on Fracture Behavior of Central-Cracked Stiffened Plate

Key Engineering Materials, 2019
Traditionally, the stress intensity factor (SIF) is solely focused on in the fracture analyses of stiffened plate, while the T-stress is usually ignored. However, the fracture toughness is influenced by T-stress and the effects need to be studied.

Stability of eccentrically stiffened plates

Thin-Walled Structures, 1992
Abstract A finite element model is developed to investigate the elastic stability of eccentrically stiffened rectangular plates. The plate and beam elements form a structural system in which the neutral surfaces for bending in the x-z and y-z planes may not coincide.

Edge cracks in stiffened plates

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1987
Abstract An analytical method for the determination of stress intensity factors in two-dimensional plane elastostatic problems is extended for the parametric study of edge cracks in stiffened panels. Two problems are studied: the case of a cracked panel reinforced with stringers and the case of two panels, connected by rivets, one of which contains a

Vibration analysis of stiffened plates

Computers & Structures, 1994
Abstract A spline compound strip method has been presented for the free vibration analysis of stiffened plates. The plate was discretized and modelled as strip elements. The displacement function of a strip element has been expressed as the product of the conventional transverse shape functions and longitudinal cubic B-splines.

Collision Analysis of Stiffened Plates

29th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering: Volume 2, 2010
Structural design of ships against collision requires prediction of the extent of damage to stiffened plates subjected to impact. Structural components such as stiffened plates, bulkheads are our concern. In ship structures stiffened plates are furnished with vertical or horizontal stiffeners to sustain conventional acting loads such as shearing ...

Sound transmission through stiffened plates

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012
It is known that proper stiffening treatments may improve the sound insulation of plate-like structures. In this study, the sound transmission loss (STL) of a thin plate with stiffening treatments is investigated using a coupled finite element and boundary element method.

Optimum design of stiffened plates

Pollack Periodica, 2006
In this overview of loaded stiffened plates various types, loadings, and stiffener shapes are investigated. Mikami and API methods are used for the optimum design and comparison of the two methods. Both methods consider the effect of initial imperfection and residual welding stresses, but their empirical formulae are different.

Rigid-plastic modelling of blast-loaded stiffened plates—Part I: One-way stiffened plates

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1993
Abstract A new rigid-plastic analysis of stiffened plates subjected to uniformly distributed blast loads is developed. In this first part of a two-part paper, a uniform one-way stiffened plate with clamped ends is modelled as a singly symmetric beam, comprised of one stiffener and its tributary plating.
