Sound transmission through stiffened plates
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012It is known that proper stiffening treatments may improve the sound insulation of plate-like structures. In this study, the sound transmission loss (STL) of a thin plate with stiffening treatments is investigated using a coupled finite element and boundary element method.

Optimum design of stiffened plates
Pollack Periodica, 2006In this overview of loaded stiffened plates various types, loadings, and stiffener shapes are investigated. Mikami and API methods are used for the optimum design and comparison of the two methods. Both methods consider the effect of initial imperfection and residual welding stresses, but their empirical formulae are different.

Rigid-plastic modelling of blast-loaded stiffened plates—Part I: One-way stiffened plates
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1993Abstract A new rigid-plastic analysis of stiffened plates subjected to uniformly distributed blast loads is developed. In this first part of a two-part paper, a uniform one-way stiffened plate with clamped ends is modelled as a singly symmetric beam, comprised of one stiffener and its tributary plating.

Bending of Orthogonally Stiffened Plates
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1955Abstract In this paper the flexure theory for plates of orthotropic material is applied in the case of orthogonally stiffened plates using an experimental method to determine plate stiffnesses in bending and in twisting. Once these stiffnesses, or elastic moduli, have been determined by test they may be used in calculating bending ...

Vibration of Stiffened Rectangular Plates
The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1964The vibrations of stiffened plates have been considered by Kirk and Mahalingam. Kirk has treated plates with several stiffeners and also a plate with a single stiffener. For plates with several stiffeners he uses the Rayleigh Method as employed by Warburton.

Vibration of Stiffened Rectangular Plates
The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1963The free flexural vibrations of rectangular plates with various boundary conditions have been considered by Warburton. The natural frequencies were calculated by the Rayleigh method, the mode assumed being the product of the characteristic beam functions for the given boundary conditions. Comparison with experimental results shows that the method gives

Large Deflection of Stiffened Plates
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1958Abstract The problem of nonlinear deflection of orthogonally stiffened plates subjected to static lateral load is treated using the concept of equivalent orthotropic plates. Equations are derived which are the appropriate generalizations of von Karman’s equations for isotropic plates.

Buckling of Longitudinally Stiffened Plates
Aeronautical Quarterly, 1967SummaryThis paper investigates the effect of the torsional stiffness of the ribs on the buckling strength of stiffened plates compressed in the direction of the ribs. For the case of plates simply-supported on all sides, a closed form formula is derived for calculating the buckling load.
