Refined model of stiffened shells

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 2020
Abstract The paper addresses several existing versions of mathematical models describing stiffened shell structures (accounting for the interaction between stiffeners and skin “along a line”, and “along a strip”, and a method for “smearing” the stiffness of stiffeners over the entire structure).

Meridional Rib-Stiffened Shells

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1981
A semianalytical technique is proposed for the analysis of a meridional rib stiffened shell of revolution which accounts for the discrete stiffness of the rib in a rational manner. The method uses discrete field concepts, finite Fourier series expansion of the dependent variables in the circumferential direction and Galerkin FEM in the meridional ...

Strength of damage ring and orthogonally stiffened shells—part I: Plain ring stiffened shells

Thin-Walled Structures, 1987
Abstract This paper is the first of two parts describing the procedure of, and results from, a series of tests on ring and orthogonally stiffened thin-walled shells. The primary purpose of the work was to investigate the collapse behaviour of the shells subjected to simulated damage and then tested under a combination of external pressure and axial ...

Stability of discretely stringer-stiffened cylindrical shells.

AIAA Journal, 1973
The paper presents and analysis for the stability characteristics of axially compressed simply supported thin cylindrical shells stiffened by longitudinal stringers. Stringers and panels between stringers are treated as discrete structural components.

Stability Analysis of Ring-Stiffened Shells of Revolution

Journal of Ship Research, 1981
A finite-element formulation is presented for the stability analysis of ring-stiffened shells of revolution using linear bifurcation buckling theory. Critical pressures and mode shapes in both general instability mode and interframe buckling mode have been obtained using this formulation.

Dynamics of a Submerged Ring-Stiffened Spherical Shell

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1971
The transient response of a ring-stiffened spherical shell to a sudden pressure increase in the surrounding acoustic medium is investigated. A modal expansion approach is used to analyze the shell, while the acoustic field equation is solved by invoking the Helmholtz integral.

MINIMUM WEIGHT POTENTIALS FOR STIFFENED PLATES AND SHELLS

AIAA Journal, 1963
Existing principles and concepts of minimum weight analysis are used to derive detailed design information for stiffened, axially compressed cylinders. Results from similar studies also are presented for hydrostatically compressed cylinders, wide columns, compression panels, and multiweb box beams in bending.

Free Vibrations of Longitudinally Stiffened Cylindrical Shells

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1974
This study is concerned with the free-vibration characteristics of thin cylindrical shells reinforced by longitudinal stringers for any edge boundary conditions. The structural system is treated as an isotropic cylinder interacting with a set of discrete thin-walled stringers.

The Stress State of Stiffened Shallow Orthotropic Shells

International Applied Mechanics, 2001
The authors propose an approach for solving the class of problems on stressed state of the elastic systems of shallow rectangular in plan shells stiffened by rods in one direction. The variation of the shells curvature is taken into account in the direction perpendicular to the ribs as well as the piece-wise constant curvature in other direction. After

Synthesis of Stiffened Conical Shells

Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1972
The development of a method to effect the automated minimum weight design of ring and stringer stiffened shells is presented. Membrane theory is used for the shell prebuckling analysis. The buckling analysis is based upon an arbitrary shell of revolution computer program. The structural analysis includes both buckling and yielding modes of failure. The
