Electroactive Liquid Crystal Elastomers as Soft Actuators
Electroactive liquid crystal elastomers (eLCEs) can be actuated via electromechanical, electrochemical, or electrothermal effects. a) Electromechanical effects include Maxwell stress, electrostriction, and the electroclinic effect. b) Electrochemical effects arise from electrode redox reactions.

Bioinspired bromination of a resilin‐derived peptide enables the fabrication of electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds that uniquely combine strain‐stiffening elasticity, proteolytic stability, and antioxidant functionality. These brominated peptide–gelatin hybrids mimic the extensibility of natural elastomers, demonstrating tunable mechanical resilience ...

Anomalous Stiffening of a Conjugated Polymer During Electrochemical Oxidation
The electromechanical response of a thienothiophene‐based conjugated polymer with triethylene glycol side chains is investigated. Electrochemical nanoindentation and atomic force microscopy reveal a modest and reversible increase in elastic modulus at room temperature upon electrochemical oxidation.

Numerical study of concrete-filled steel composite (CFSC) stub columns with steel stiffeners
Numerical study of concrete-filled steel composite (CFSC) stub columns with steel stiffeners is presented in this paper. The behaviour of the columns is examined by the use of the finite element software LUSAS.

Optimization of hybrid I-beams using modified particle swarm method
An approach for the optimization of hybrid welded I-beams based on the modification of the particle swarm method is proposed. A solution search is performed on discrete sets of variable parameters, which are taken as the size of sheets of rolled steel ...

4D Printing of Self‐Immolative Polymers
The integration of self‐immolative polymers (SIPs) into light‐based 3D printed structures is presented as a new “living” 4D printing strategy. By exploiting their metastability and stimuli‐responsiveness, SIP‐containing printed objects can undergo rapid and triggered degrowth under ambient conditions and subsequent regrowth through polymer ...

STATIC AND DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF STIFFENED PLATE USED IN MACHINE TOOL COLUMN
Static behavior (under torsion and bending loading) of machine tool column was studied in this paper. The effects of changing the cross sectional area of the column itself on the deformations (design parameters) was investigated.

Electrochemically Driven Dissipative Growth of Affinity Hydrogels for Bioresponsive Interfaces
Voltage pulses drive the growth and reinforcement of hydrogel films under dissipative conditions. This biocompatible strategy enables efficient integration of affinity ligands into the hydrogel matrix, enhancing the selective capture of growth factors and allowing precise temporal control over their release, making them well‐suited as adaptive ...

Merging enriched Finite Element triangle meshes for fast prototyping of alternate solutions in the context of industrial maintenance [PDF]
A new approach to the merging of Finite Element (FE) triangle meshes is proposed. Not only it takes into account the geometric aspects, but it also considers the way the semantic information possibly associated to the groups of entities (nodes, faces ...
