Meridional Rib-Stiffened Shells

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1981
A semianalytical technique is proposed for the analysis of a meridional rib stiffened shell of revolution which accounts for the discrete stiffness of the rib in a rational manner. The method uses discrete field concepts, finite Fourier series expansion of the dependent variables in the circumferential direction and Galerkin FEM in the meridional ...

Composite repairs to rib stiffened panels

Composite Structures, 1999
Abstract There are several methods available for obtaining a first estimate for the design of composite repairs to cracks in thin metallic skins. One approach uses analytical formulae, which build on an analogy with the problem of a bonded symmetric lap joint (Rose LRF. An application of the inclusion analogy for bonded reinforcements.

Lightweight Stiffening Ribs in Structural Plates

SAE International Journal of Commercial Vehicles, 2017
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The aim of this analysis was to model the effect of adding stiffening ribs in structural aluminum components by friction stir processing (FSP) Nano material into the aluminum matrix. These stiffening ribs could dampen, redirect, or otherwise alter the transmission of energy waves

Rib separation in postbuckling stiffened shear panels

Composite Structures, 1998
Abstract With the introduction of postbuckling lightweight composite structures, adhesively bonded joints with thin skins are susceptible to premature failure due to peel induced loading. This paper reports on the findings of a research programme to investigate the local and global responses of postbuckling rib-stiffened panels under shear loads.

Vibrations of Rib-Stiffened Elliptical and Circular Plates

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1970
This investigation deals with the determination of the fundamental frequency of vibration of simply supported and clamped rib-stiffened plates of elliptical boundary. It is assumed that the stiffeners are closely spaced and that their height is moderate when compared with the thickness of the plate.

Buckling of Rib-Stiffened Plates: An Asymptotic Approach

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1990
A perturbation scheme is developed to study the buckling of rib-stiffened plates. Only “weak” stiffeners are considered. The method of solution is suggested by a slight variation in the standard model and developed, initially, for a simpler problem, the vibration of a string with a bead attached.
