Calculating the Flexure of Circular Plates with Radial Stiffening Ribs [PDF]
Variational methods of calculation are used to describe the stress–strain behavior of ribbed rectangular plates. The authors performed calculations for a plate with an unsupported load-free outer edge, based on the Ritz–Timoshenko strain energy method. In addition, a special approximating function that met all the contour conditions was found.

On the Strength Weakening Effect of Stiffening Ribs in the Design of Machine Components [PDF]
The bending stress in beams may often be reduced by adding material to the cross section. In some paradoxical cases, however, the bending stress increases by adding material from zones far away, or close to, the neutral axis. Similarly, the bending stress of rectilinear or curved beams may often be reduced by adding ribs to the initial beam section ...

The Obstacle Problem for the Equilibrium of a Shallow Shell Reinforced with Stiffening Ribs
ZAMM Zeitschrift Fur Angewandte Mathematik Und Mechanik, 1982AbstractThe paper deals with the existence and uniqueness of a solution of a variational inequality for the obstacle problem of the shallow shell reinforced with stiffening ribs. The obstacle problem is the formulated as a direct variational problem.

Vibration Reduction in Plates with Joints and Stiffening Ribs [PDF]
Previous studies conducted in this laboratory on the vibrations of plates with joints were concerned primarily with rigid bar joints presenting essentially a one-dimensional constraint. Photographs of this system's nodal patterns clearly demonstrate transmission of those modes having nodal lines parallel to the joint, in agreement with theory, while ...

Silicon nitride biaxial pointing mirrors with stiffening ribs [PDF]
Gold-coated silicon nitride mirrors designed for two orthogonal rotations were fabricated. The devices were patterned out of nitride using surface micromachining techniques, and then released by a sacrificial oxide etch and bulk etching the silicon ...

Fabrication and modeling of rib-stiffened thin films
Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, 2009Structures created from thin films using surface micromachining techniques typically have low out-of-plane bending stiffness, making them unsuitable for applications such as high-speed laser scan mirrors. The bending stiffness of a low-pressure chemical vapor deposited (LPCVD) film is altered by adding stiffening ribs to the back of the film.

Buckling mode localization in rib-stiffened plates with randomly misplaced stiffeners
Computers & Structures, 1998Summary: We study buckling mode localization in rib-stiffened rectangular plates with randomly misplaced stiffeners. Localization factors, which characterize the average exponential rates of growth or decay of amplitudes of deflection, are determined using the method of transfer matrix.
