Vibrations of Rib-Stiffened Elliptical and Circular Plates
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1970This investigation deals with the determination of the fundamental frequency of vibration of simply supported and clamped rib-stiffened plates of elliptical boundary. It is assumed that the stiffeners are closely spaced and that their height is moderate when compared with the thickness of the plate.

Buckling of Rib-Stiffened Plates: An Asymptotic Approach
SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1990A perturbation scheme is developed to study the buckling of rib-stiffened plates. Only “weak” stiffeners are considered. The method of solution is suggested by a slight variation in the standard model and developed, initially, for a simpler problem, the vibration of a string with a bead attached.

Fabrication and modeling of rib-stiffened thin films
Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, 2009Structures created from thin films using surface micromachining techniques typically have low out-of-plane bending stiffness, making them unsuitable for applications such as high-speed laser scan mirrors. The bending stiffness of a low-pressure chemical vapor deposited (LPCVD) film is altered by adding stiffening ribs to the back of the film.

Buckling mode localization in rib-stiffened plates with randomly misplaced stiffeners
Computers & Structures, 1998Summary: We study buckling mode localization in rib-stiffened rectangular plates with randomly misplaced stiffeners. Localization factors, which characterize the average exponential rates of growth or decay of amplitudes of deflection, are determined using the method of transfer matrix.

Effect of rib bending on Bloch wave structure of a rib-stiffened plate
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997It is well known that flexural vibration on a flat plate stiffened by periodically placed line supports shows stop/passband behavior in frequency, associated with Bloch waves. For a one-dimensional situation, with plate vibration incident normally on the ribs, a simple model in which the ribs exert forces normal to the plate by virtue of their mass ...

Optimal design of rib-stiffeners in disks and plates
International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1989Abstract Disks and plates subjected to stretching and flexure are stiffened by curvilinear ribstiffeners whose shape and cross-sectional area are subject to optimization. Sensitivity analysis is first discussed for an arbitrary integral functional of generalized stress, strain and displacement and boundary domains.

Bonded repairs to rib stiffened wing skins
Composite Structures, 2002The present paper extends existing design formulae [Int. J. Solid Struct. 17 (1981) 827; J. Compos. Struct. 47 (1999) 737] for composite repairs to cracked metallic skins to include the bonded repair of rib stiffened wing skins. These design formulae are validated by comparison with the results of a series of 3D finite element studies and an ...

Buckling of Externally Pressurized Toroidal Shell With Stiffened Ribs
Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 2020Abstract The buckling characteristics of toroidal shells with closed circular cross sections loaded with a static external pressure were investigated. Eight toroidal shell test models were developed: two ribless, two semicircular discrete ribs, two rectangular discrete ribs, and two rectangular continuous ribs.

Analysis of shells reinforced by massive stiffening ribs
International Applied Mechanics, 2008The authors present results of the application of a heterogeneous mathematical model for the design of shell with massive stiffening ribs. Numerical results are obtained for a cylindrical shell with stiffening ribs. These results are compared with numerical results established in terms of the mathematical model of elasticity theory and the model of the

Sound absorption of a rib-stiffened plate covered by anechoic coatings
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2015Underwater vehicles are often equipped with anechoic coatings to absorb the sound waves of active sonar and attenuate the noise emitted from the vessels. Rubber layers with periodically distributed air cavities are widely used as anechoic coatings.
