Performance Characteristics of a New Aerostatic Thrust Bearing with Poro-Elastic Restrictor

open access: yesLubricants
Aerostatic bearings were proven to be an optimal choice in situations where low friction, cleanliness, and high motion accuracy are required. Their functionality relies heavily on flow restrictors, which are responsible for regulating and controlling the

Efficient Structure-Based Models for the McKibben Contraction Pneumatic Muscle Actuator: The Full Description of the Behaviour of the Contraction PMA

open access: yesActuators, 2017
To clarify the advantages of using soft robots in all aspects of life, the effective behaviour of the pneumatic muscle actuator (PMA) must be known. In this work, the performances of the PMA are explained and modelled with three formulas.

On the bipenalty method: why is it advantageous to add stiffness and mass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In a recent paper, Askes et al [1] proposed the simultaneous use of stiffness and inertia of large magnitude to model constraints in time domain analysis.

Moderators of the Effects of Exercise and Manual Therapy for People With Knee and Hip Osteoarthritis: A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study aimed to investigate potential moderators influencing the effects of manual therapy and exercise therapy on pain and functional outcomes in individuals with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis, using data from the MOA trial. This is a secondary analysis of data from the MOA trial that compares the clinical effectiveness of manual ...

Formal and informal social care in people with Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal diseases: a cross‐sectional multicentre survey

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Introduction Rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases(RMDs) are leading causes of physical disability, necessitating support with activities of daily living(ADLs). This study describes social care received by patients with RMDs in two disperate regions of England: Salford(urban) and Norfolk(rural).

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

Switching in Feedforward Control of Grip Force During Tool-Mediated Interaction With Elastic Force Fields

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurorobotics, 2018
Switched systems are common in artificial control systems. Here, we suggest that the brain adopts a switched feedforward control of grip forces during manipulation of objects.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.
