Models for RC Frames with Degrading Stiffness

Journal of the Structural Division, 1977
Analytical models for representing the hysteretic behavior of reinforced concrete members are reviewed. Based on results of exterior connection tests, two degrading trilinear models are suggested, one of which considers the effect of the connection.

Extracellular matrix stiffness regulates degradation of MST2 via SCF βTrCP

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 2022
The Hippo pathway plays central roles in relaying mechanical signals during development and tumorigenesis, but how the proteostasis of the Hippo kinase MST2 is regulated remains unknown. Here, we found that chemical inhibition of proteasomal proteolysis resulted in increased levels of MST2 in human breast epithelial cells.

Stochastic dynamics with fatigue-induced stiffness degradation

Probabilistic Engineering Mechanics, 2000
This article deals with stochastic dynamics coupled with simultaneous evolution of degradation of the system properties. We provide a general formulations and interpretations of various response-degradation problems associated with randomly vibrating systems and then an efficient analysis of vibratory systems with fatigue-induced stiffness degradation ...

Topology optimization of degradable composite structures with time‐changeable stiffness

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2021
AbstractFor effective bone healing, the stiffness of the bone plate should be adjusted to different bone‐healing processes. Thus, the design of stiffness‐changeable structures that take into account the time effect is of importance. To this end, this study introduces a novel topological optimization approach for the composite structural layout design ...

Extracellular matrix (ECM) stiffness and degradation as cancer drivers

Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, 2018
AbstractAlteration in the density and composition of extracellular matrix (ECM) occurs in tumors. The alterations toward both stiffness and degradation are contributed to tumor growth and progression. Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are the main contributors to ECM stiffness and degradation.

Stiff Degradation of Granular Material – A DEM Approach

2019
The stiffness degradation of granular materials such as soils due to cyclic loading has been widely explored in the experimental studies, mostly in triaxial or oedometer apparatus. Such behaviour can be observed due to the cyclic loading at very small strains, which is considered as elastic range.

Stiffness degradation and shear strength of silty sands

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2004
Soils behave nonlinearly from very early loading stages. When granular soils contain a certain amount of fines, the degree of nonlinearity also changes, as stiffness and strength characteristics vary with fines content. Hyperbolic stress–strain models and variations of these models are often used for description of the nonlinear behavior.

Water effects on rock strength and stiffness degradation

Acta Geotechnica, 2015
Reduction in strength and stiffness in rocks attributed to an increase in water content has been extensively researched on a large variety of rock types over the past decades. Due to the considerable variations of texture and lithology, the extent of water-weakening effect is highly varied among different rock types, spanning from nearly negligible in ...

Stiffness degradation of GFRP pipes under fatigue loading

Materials Testing, 2019
Abstract This research on the stiffness of glass fiber reinforced plastics (GFRP) pipes constructed according to various types of winding patterns and under varied loading conditions, proposes a model of stiffness degradation for GFRP pipes and the parameters for a model of stiffness degradation. Based on a hoop winding GFRP pipe fatigue
