Evaluation of the indirect tensile stiffness modulus test

Sixth International RILEM Symposium on Performance Testing and Evaluation of Bituminous Materials, 2003
In view to enhance in the field of characterization of asphalt mixes and to develop new test methods, RTE (the central laboratory of SCREG) has acquired a universal testing machine designed to conduct indirect tensile stiffness modulus testing. The interest of this technique is that it is time-saving compared to complex modulus and direct tension ...

Influence of Salt Freezing on Asphalt Mortar's Stiffness Modulus

ICTE 2013, 2013
In winter of the northern region, de-icing salt will be used when the pavement is covered with snow. However, the use of de-icing salt will affect the performance of the pavement materials greatly. The stiffness modulus is an important indicator of asphalt mortar's performance. So the stiffness modulus is selected as the research object.

Equivalent Stiffness Modulus of Polyester Fiber Reinforced Asphalt Concrete

Journal of Highway and Transportation Research and Development (English Edition), 2007
AbstractThe equations established for fiber reinforced composites by Zhao and Tandon using the theory of micromechanics are used to discuss effective stiffness moduli of fiber reinforced asphalt concrete under low temperature. The results of these equations are compared with experimental data from splitting test under several temperature levels within −

Influence of Temperature on Asphalt Mixture Stiffness Modulus

2012
It is well known that temperature has a great influence on performance of asphalt layers. Low temperatures raise the asphalt stiffness modulus which finally results in low temperature cracking. On the other hand, the increase of the temperature softens the asphalt binder and the stiffness modulus significantly drops.

Stiffness-Thermal Expansion Relationships in High Modulus Carbon Fibers

Journal of Composite Materials, 1987
Improved crystallite orientation in carbon fibers increases the axial stiffness while decreasing the axial coefficient of thermal expansion. Measurements of unidirectional Pitch 120 and Pitch 140 fibers, with axial tensile Young's moduli of 828 GPa (120 msi) and 966 GPa (140 msi), respectively, in epoxy and aluminum matrices are described.

Stiffness modulus and phase angle prediction models for high modulus asphalt concrete

2003
To improve the service life of pavements, innovative materials have to be used to produce asphalt concrete layers that can better withstand distress phenomena. The rehabilitation of a structural layer on the EN14 (Portuguese national highway 14) using high modulus asphalt concrete (HMAC) has been studied.

Shear modulus and stiffness of brickwork masonry: An experimental perspective

Structural Engineering and Mechanics, 2005
Masonry is a composite non-homogeneous structural material, whose mechanical properties depend on the properties of and the interaction between the composite components - brick and mortar, their volume ratio, the properties of their bond, and any cracking in the masonry.

On the Stiffness of the Tangent Modulus Tensor in Elastoplasticity

Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 2011
In finite element analysis of pressure vessels undergoing elastoplastic deformation, low stiffness of the tangent modulus tensor will engender low stiffness in the tangent stiffness matrix, posing a risk of computational difficulties such as poor convergence.

Stiff as a Board: Perspectives on the Crystalline Modulus of Cellulose

ACS Macro Letters, 2012
A viewpoint on the importance of the accurate determination of the crystal modulus of cellulose is given with respect to recent advances in extracting high modulus nanofibrils/fibers from plants and production by bacteria and animals. Often the modulus of these nanofibrils/fibers is assumed to be the same as the crystal modulus of cellulose.
