Stillbirths in Cattle

British Veterinary Journal, 1970
SUMMARY Some factors influencing the causation of stillbirths in cattle were studied in 105,122 progeny of 100 bulls of eight breeds over a period of 8 years. The breed of dam was not considered. The calves of Friesian bulls were studied in greater detail than those of seven other breeds, in view of the greater numbers available.

Thrombophilias and Stillbirth

Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2010
It is often postulated that both inherited and acquired thrombophilias increase the risk of stillbirth. In an attempt to reduce this theoretical risk, pregnant patients with prior fetal losses and thrombophilias are anticoagulated. However, there is no definitive proof that thrombophilias are causally linked to stillbirth.

Investigation of Stillbirth

Pediatric and Developmental Pathology, 2001
The pathologic investigation of stillbirth is often frustrating, and may be viewed as unrewarding, because the reason for death of the infant frequently is not identifiable. Genetics of Stillbirth

Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2010
Approximately 25% of stillbirths have been attributed to genetic etiologies. The most common cytogenetic abnormalities are similar to those seen in liveborns and include 45X, trisomy 21, trisomy 18, and trisomy 13. Cytogenetic abnormalities are more common when fetal structural anomalies are identified.

Stillbirths 5. Stillbirths

The Lancet, 2011
Stillbirth rates in high-income countries declined dramatically from about 1940, but this decline has slowed or stalled over recent times. The present variation in stillbirth rates across and within high-income countries indicates that further reduction in stillbirth is possible.

The epidemiology of stillbirth

Seminars in Perinatology, 2002
Stillbirths account for an increasing proportion of feto-infant mortality. Yet, causes of stillbirth are rarely reported, and the causes of most stillbirths remain unknown. Few studies focus specifically on the epidemiology of stillbirth. Major risk factors include high maternal age, smoking, and overweight.
