Geomorphic restoration and stabilization of a reach of Stevens Creek [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This project focuses on the restoration of a 460-foot reach of Stevens Creek in Santa Clara County, California. The new design will increase the stability of stream channels, riparian system functions, and fish passage while improving or maintaining the

Stilling Basin Performance Analysis by ADV

open access: yes, 2016
The outlet flow from dams, channels, and pipes, as well as the river flow, can cause damage to the bed of the river or channel and cause scouring of structures such as the saddles of bridges, because of the huge amount of the kinetic energy carried by the flow.

Slip versus dilation tendency parameter space as a tool for prospecting structurally controlled geothermal systems in greenfield: insights from the greater Ruhr region

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study highlights that with the static and time‐dependent evolution of slip versus dilation tendency parameter space, structurally controlled deep geothermal systems can be selected within areas of higher permeability and lower seismic hazard. Abstract Faults play a vital role in the Earth's hydraulic system by facilitating fluid flow when dilating

Closed Conduit to Open Channel USU Stilling Basin [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Criterion have been developed for designing a stilling basin to serve as a transition from closed conduit flow to open channel flow for a fully submerged pipe outlet. The unique feature of the stilling basin is the short-pipe energy dissipater so located

The impact of forced closure on proppant distribution of hydraulic fracturing in shale formations

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Research findings demonstrate that implementing forced closure within shale formations can remarkably mitigate proppant settlement, concurrently increasing the effective propped surface area from 29.74% to 38.68%. Abstract Forced closure is widely used in conventional oil and gas reservoirs to promote uniform proppant placement.

Desain Bendung Kaligending Pada Daerah Non Cekungan Air Tanah (Non – Cat) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In 1992, Kaligending Weir was Built at Kaligending Village, Karangsambung District in Kebumen. In 1998 the Kaligending Weir was dismantled due to the flood at Karangsambung which the people considered was caused by the weir. this made the water unable to

Fracture evolution of a thick soft protection layer and the water inrush mechanism in overburden under longwall mining

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Through shear–tensile creep tests and viscoelastic modeling, the fracture evolution of thick soft protective layers is clarified. Results show thickness‐dependent rheological failure modes that govern four types of roof water inrush, providing a mechanism‐based framework for hazard prediction and control. Abstract In the Jurassic coal‐bearing strata of
