Hydraulic Design of Stilling Basins: Stilling Basin with Sloping Apron (Basin V)

Procedures and rules for the design of a stilling basin with a sloping apron are presented along with a discussion of the relative merits of sloping and horizontal aprons. Critical basin dimensions and tail water requirements are presented in dimensionless form. Recommendations are verified from an analysis of 13 existing basins having sloping aprons.

Double basin solar still

Abstract This paper presents a periodic analysis and observed performance of a double basin solar still, mounted on a stand. Observations on this type of still are in fair agreement with the results of analysis. The daily distillate production of such a still is on the average 36% higher than that of a single basin still.

Shapes for Appurtenances in Stilling Basins

Baffle pier experiments in hydraulic jump type of stilling basins indicate that wedge-shaped blocks with a vertex angle of 120○ dissipate more energy in a shorter length than rectangular blocks. The wedge blocks with the downstream portion cut-back at an angle of 90○ are expected to be free from cavitation.

Investigation of a single-basin solar still with deep basins

Abstract A single basin solar still (SBSS) is designed and constructed. A simple transient mathematical model is presented for the still. It is based on analytical solution of the energy-balance equations for different parts of the still. Analytical expressions for temperatures of different components have been obtained.
