Feasibility Assessment of Basin Solar Stills
International Journal of Green Energy, 2014The present study assesses the feasibility of exploiting single- and double-basin solar stills in our daily lives. An investigation is carried out to determine the thermal performance and economic viability of making use of solar stills in water desalination.

A practical basin-type solar still
Solar Energy, 1965Abstract A basin-type solar still has been developed that is practical and economical to use in some parts of the world. Materials of construction and performance characteristics, as determined from extensive field testing and from analytical and laboratory investigations, are discussed.

Free-surface mapping of air-water flows in a stilling basin
, 2020Energy dissipation is an important aspect in the design of hydraulic structures. Stilling basins are a common type of energy dissipator in which a hydraulic jump dissipates large amounts of the flow energy.

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1957
Continuing the development in Paper 1402, this paper describes tests to generalize the design of a shorter stilling basin containing chute blocks, end sill, and one row of baffle piers. General design rules and sample problems are included. Critical basin dimensions, water surface profiles, and tail water ranges are presented in dimensionless forms.

Except for larger structures or unusual circumstances, a stilling basin may not be tested in a hydraulic lab, or it may be tested with respect to several features although the final design does not involve a series of model studies. Experiences with Stilling Basins
1992As compared to the number of laboratory studies, where stilling basins were tested and their performance improved by various appurtenances, the information on the actual behaviour of prototypes is scarce. A number of general comments on “stilling basin experiences” are outlined, as was done in a classical paper by Berryhill.

Campos Basin: Challenges Still to Overcome
Offshore Technology Conference, 2003Abstract Petrobras stepped into the third millennium with an ambitious plan for offshore oil production. As a natural sequence of the most recent breakthroughs achieved in deep and ultradeepwater activities, Petrobras now prepares itself to operate in an even more difficult scenario in Campos Basin: deeper water, up

Riprap Design for SAF Stilling Basins
Transactions of the ASAE, 1992Physical model tests were conducted to determine criteria for the size and placement of riprap downstream of SAF stilling basins to ensure basin integrity. Relationships are presented to determine the depth, width, and length for preformed scour holes as a function of the Froude number and riprap size.
