Establishing derived reinforcers via stimulus equivalence

Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 2022
If one of several stimuli in an equivalence class acquires a function, it transfers to all members of the respective class. Even though research has demonstrated this transfer across a variety of stimulus functions (e.g., discriminative), few studies have focused on the transfer of the reinforcing function.

Establishing stimulus equivalences among retarded adolescents

Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1976
Abstract Two separate sets of stimuli were established as stimulus classes in a match-to-sample task by using each stimulus as both a sample and choice stimulus for every other member within that set. After classes were established, the subjects were taught to select one member of each class when an associated auditory stimulus was presented.

An fMRI study of stimulus equivalence

Neuroreport, 2001
In order to study brain activation during the formation of equivalence relations, 12 subjects underwent fMRI during matching-to-sample (MTS) tests of (1) previously trained arbitrary relationships between iconic stimuli and the untrained, emergent relations of (2) symmetry, (3) transitivity, and (4) symmetry with transitivity, plus a test of verbal ...

Complex Stimulus Control and Equivalence

The Psychological Record, 1993
A matching-to-sample procedure that engenders observation of two elements of a complex sample stimulus may establish equivalence relations among those elements. Studies that focus on complex stimulus control will help determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for equivalence class formation. Further studies in this area will benefit by blending
