FREQ‐NESS Reveals the Dynamic Reconfiguration of Frequency‐Resolved Brain Networks During Auditory Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A new analytical pipeline, FREQuency‐resolved Network Estimation via Source Separation (FREQ‐NESS), reveals how the brain at rest is organized in frequency‐specific networks and dynamically rearranges during auditory stimulation. By analyzing source‐reconstructed magnetoencephalography (MEG) data, FREQ‐NESS uncovers the networks' prominence, spatial ...

Improving Practices for Selecting a Subset of Important Predictors in Psychology: An Application to Predicting Pain

open access: yesAdvances in Methods and Practices in Psychological Science, 2019
Frequently, researchers in psychology are faced with the challenge of narrowing down a large set of predictors to a smaller subset. There are a variety of ways to do this, but commonly it is done by choosing predictors with the strongest bivariate ...

Neural Patterns of Social Pain in the Brain‐Wide Representations Across Social Contexts

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Empathy arises from both physiological and social pain, yet their shared and context‐specific neural mechanisms remain unclear. Combining fMRI and multivariate pattern analysis, this study decodes overlapping empathy networks and distinct representations for social exclusion versus separation.

Measures of tonic and phasic activity of the locus coeruleus—norepinephrine system in children with autism spectrum disorder: An event‐related potential and pupillometry study

open access: yesAutism Research, Volume 15, Issue 12, Page 2250-2264, December 2022., 2022
Abstract A growing body of research suggests that locus coeruleus‐norepinephrine (LC‐NE) system may function differently in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Understanding the dynamics of both tonic (resting pupil diameter) and phasic (pupil dilation response [PDR] and event‐related potential [ERP]) indices may provide meaningful ...

The Caudate Nucleus Mediates Learning of Stimulus–Control State Associations

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2017
A longstanding dichotomy in cognitive psychology and neuroscience pits controlled, top-down driven behavior against associative, bottom-up driven behavior, where cognitive control processes allow us to override well-learned stimulus–response (S–R ...

The Lung Microbiome Modulates Pain‐Like Behavior Via the Lung–Brain Axis in a Nitroglycerin‐Induced Chronic Migraine Mouse Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Intratracheal neomycin alters pulmonary microbiota, activating the vagus nerve via lung brain‐derived neurotrophic factor/tropomyosin receptor kinase B (BDNF/TrkB) pathway, further projecting to nucleus of solitary tract (NTS), then dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN), where activated serotoninergic neurons increase brain serotonin, alleviating migraine.

Association of maternal autoimmune disease and early childhood infections with offspring autism spectrum disorder: A population‐based cohort study

open access: yesAutism Research, Volume 15, Issue 12, Page 2371-2380, December 2022., 2022
Abstract The aim of this study was to examine potential synergistic effects between maternal autoimmune disease and early childhood infections and their association with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in offspring. Both exposures have been associated with increased risk of ASD in previous studies, but potential synergistic effects remain underexplored.

Bioinspired Adaptive Neuron Enabled by Self‐powered Optoelectronic Memristor and Threshold Switching Memory for Neuromorphic Visual System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The self‐powered optoelectronic memristor based on ZnO/WOx heterojunction is developed, exhibiting the visual adaptation functions of desensitization and Weber's law. A bioinspired visual adaptive neuron is constructed, capable of converting light stimuli into dynamic spike trains.

Examining the relationship between cognitive inflexibility and internalizing and externalizing symptoms in autistic children and adolescents: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesAutism Research, Volume 15, Issue 12, Page 2265-2295, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Compared to neurotypical peers, autistic adolescents show greater cognitive inflexibility (CI) which manifests at the behavioral and cognitive level and potentially increases vulnerability for the development of internalizing (INT) and externalizing (EXT) symptoms.

Rational Design and Organoid‐Based Evaluation of a Cocktail CAR‐γδ T Cell Therapy for Heterogeneous Glioblastoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel “prof” cocktail therapy is designed. It screens antigens, selects personalized antigen panels, engineers optimized CAR‐Vδ1 T cells, and tests in patient‐derived GBM organoids, offering hope for effective CAR‐T drugs against heterogeneous solid tumors. Abstract Various challenges, including tumor heterogeneity and inadequate T cell infiltration,
