Responses of Seashore Paspalum Cultivars to Sting and Spiral Nematodes

Crop Science, 2011
ABSTRACTSting (Belonolaimus longicaudatus Rau) and spiral (Helicotylenchus spp.) nematodes are among the most common and damaging nematode species found on seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum Swartz) in Florida. Restriction and cancellation of nematicides on turfgrass have accelerated the development of more environmentally friendly nematode ...

Damage Functions for Sting Nematode (Belonolaimus longicaudatus) on Bermudagrass Turf

International Turfgrass Society Research Journal, 2017
Sting nematode (Belonolaimus longicaudatus) is one of the most aggressive and damaging parasites of bermudagrass, a widely used turfgrass in the southeastern United States. A damage threshold model for sting nematode on bermudagrass was developed with data collected during a 2‐yr field trial at multiple locations in South Carolina.

Suppressing Sting Nematodes with Brassica sp., Poinsettia, and Spotted Spurge Extracts

Agronomy Journal, 2006
With synthetic nematicide options becoming limited, two studies were initiated to investigate the usefulness of selective botanical extracts for the suppression of sting (Belonolaimus longicaudatus Rau) nematodes. Plant materials were from greenhouse‐grown mature specimens of spotted spurge (Chamaesyce maculata L.

Studies on the nematicidal activity of stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) on plant parasitic nematodes

Archives Of Phytopathology And Plant Protection, 2013
The effect and the potential application of stinging nettle exudates in controlling plant nematodes were investigated. The effect of root exudates of the stinging nettle interplanted with tomato and bean and its potential application as green manure for reducing the population of plant nematodes were also investigated.

Efficacy of fluopyram and fluensulfone on sting nematode (Belonolaimus longicaudatus) in Florida strawberry

Pest Management Science
AbstractBACKGROUNDSting nematode (Belonolaimus longicaudatus) is a major pest in Florida strawberry fields, which produce most of winter strawberries in the United States. For decades, fumigants were the only nematicides available for strawberries. Recently, fluensulfone and fluopyram were approved for use in Florida strawberry production, offering ...

Distribution of southern sting nematode, Ibipora lolii (Nematoda: Belonolaimidae), on turfgrass in Australia and its taxonomic relationship to other belonolaimids

Nematology, 2013
Molecular evidence from sequences of three regions of ribosomal DNA (partial SSU, ITS-1, 5.8S and ITS-2, and D2/D3 expansion segments of LSU) is presented to show that the two belonolaimids described from turfgrass in Australia (Ibipora lolii and Morulaimus gigas) are identical. Morulaimus gigas is therefore considered a junior synonym of I. lolii. The

Efficacy of Summer and Fall Cover Crops at Managing Sting and Stubby-root Nematodes in Florida Potato Production

Plant Disease
Sting (Belonolaimus longicaudatus) and stubby-root nematodes (Nanidorus minor) are major plant-parasitic nematodes (PPNs) of spring potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) in Florida. Fumigation is the primary PPN management tactic for growers in the area, but more options are needed. Cover cropping is one of the few potential PPN management options that fit this
