Solute redistribution in stir-cast Al-6Cu
Journal of Materials Science, 1989The solute distribution in stir-cast Al-6 wt % Cu alloy is more uniform than that in the conventionally cast (unstirred) alloy, solidified at the same cooling rate. The Bower-Brody-Flemings model of microsegregation was modified to take account of convective interdendritic (or intercellular) solute transport in the liquid.

Friction Stir Welding of Cast Aluminum Alloys
Russian Metallurgy (Metally)The study results of the mechanical properties and structure of cast aluminum alloy joints made by friction-stir welding (FSW) are presented. The processes of intense plastic deformation in FSW have influence on the formation of the microstructure of a weld seam, on which its strength properties depend, however, the determining factor is the ...

Dual In-Mold Electromagnetic Stirring in Continuous Casting
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2004We evaluate an effect of the dual in-mold electromagnetic stirring (M-EMS) which is arranged in series to control the molten steel velocity distribution using magnetohydrodynamic calculation. A stirring force ratio (SFR) defined as F/sub u//F/sub l/ where F/sub u/ is an electromagnetic force of upper M-EMS and F/sub l/ is the one of the lower M-EMS is ...

Research on Casting of GH3030 Superalloy with Electromagnetic Stirring
Advanced Materials Research, 2010The effect of electromagnetic stirring on the inner quality and solidification microstructure of the GH 3030 superalloy ingots was investigated by casting experiments. As we know from the experiments, the solidification microstructure of GH3030 is the single-phase of austenite.

In-mold electromagnetic stirring in continuous casting
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2001To get the optimal operation of in-mold electromagnetic stirring through the fundamental characteristics, a three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic calculation model was used, taking into consideration heat transfer and solidification as well as free surface. Comparison between measured velocity and calculated velocity is in agreement.

Friction Stir Processing of Cast NiAl Bronze
Materials Science Forum, 2007Friction stir processing (FSP) of cast NiAl bronze has resulted in significant increases in properties including more than doubling the yield greater that 40 percent increase in the threshold fatigue life; all achieved while increasing ductility. These and other strength, greater than a 60 percent increase in tensile strength, and property improvements

Friction stir welding of aluminium casting alloys
Welding International, 2013The results of testing friction stir welding quality in relation to EN AC-43200 (AK9) and EN AC-45000 (AK64) aluminium casting alloys are presented. The test joints were made with the use of a welding machine constructed on the basis of numerically controlled milling machines.

Simulation of mushy state solidification in stir casting
World Journal of Engineering, 2018Purpose Stir casting is a promising technique used for the manufacture of Al-SiC metal matrix composites. The clustering of reinforcement particles is a serious concern in this production method. In this work, mushy-state solidification characteristics in stir casting are numerically simulated using computational fluid dynamics techniques to study the

Design and Development of Hybrid Stir Casting Process
International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering, 2012The widespread adoption of particulate metal matrix composites (MMCs) for engineering applications has been hindered by the high cost of producing components of complex shape. Casting technology may be the key to overcoming this problem with stir casting. But the problem arises with stir casting is wettability and porosity.

The Fracture Mechanism of As-Cast and Extruded SiCp/AZ91 Composites Fabricated by Stir Casting
Key Engineering Materials, 2007The fracture mechanisms of SiCp/AZ91 composites were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). For the as-cast composites, the decohesion at SiCp/matrix interface is the main fracture mechanism because of the high stress concentration resulting from the segregation of particles in grain boundaries formed during solidification process. But for
