The Potential of the Stirling Cycle Heat Pump

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power Engineering, 1989
An important potential application of the electrically driven Stirling cycle heat pump is in the field of industrial waste heat recovery. Here the temperatures and temperature lifts required are often outside the scope of existing types of heat pump.

Precision temperature control of Stirling-cycle cryocoolers

SPIE Proceedings, 1994
Linear-drive Stirling-cycle cryocoolers designed with non contacting parts are ideal for long-life cryogenic cooling applications. These cryocoolers are light weight, have an almost unbounded operational life, and require no expensive ground handling equipment or procedures. One of the challenges in applying these refrigerators to sensitive instruments

Thermodynamic Design of Stirling Cycle Machines

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Mechanical Engineering Science, 1987
When local, instantaneous departures from ideal reversible behaviour are evaluated in terms of the entropy generation rate, the differential equations describing the unsteady processes in the Stirling cycle machine give way to steady flow forms.

A Numerical Model for Stirling Cycle Machines

Journal of Engineering for Power, 1980
The further development of a model to accurately simulate the performance and detailed behavior of Stirling cycle machines is described. The transport equation set (which describe the working gas) is derived in both the so-called integral and differential forms. Only the integral equation set is solved for the simulation.

Stirling-cycle cryocooler active vibration control

Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Control and Applications, 2002
A cryogenic cooler capable of continuously maintaining the required cryogenic temperature is one of the critical elements enabling space-borne surveillance sensors to detect cold objects against a space background or warm objects against an Earth background.

Measurement of losses in a Stirling cycle cooler

Cryogenics, 1987
Abstract An attempt has been made to identify and measure all the significant power losses in a miniature Stirling cycle refrigerator. Methods of measuring these losses in a working refrigerator using non-invasive instrumentation are described. An energy balance is presented which shows that all the major sources of energy loss have been accounted ...

Application of Stirling Cycle Generators in Production Operations

CIPC/SPE Gas Technology Symposium 2008 Joint Conference, 2008
Abstract Clean, inexpensive, and reliable on-site electric power generation for remote wellsites is an emerging need. There is a growing demand for electric power sources in the range of ½ to 1.5 kW to run pumping units and pumps on liquid loaded gas wells.

Optimization of design parameters of Stirling cycle machine

Cryogenics, 1993
Abstract The performance of a Stirling cryocooler is governed by six principal design parameters, namely speed, pressure limits, the temperature of the working fluid in the compression and expansion spaces, the ratio of the compression and expansion space swept volumes, the ratio of total dead volume and expansion space swept volume and the phase ...

Stirling’s cycle and the second law of thermodynamics

American Journal of Physics, 1984
In order to prove the general validity of the second law of thermodynamics, several instances of the Stirling cycle are studied, especially in relation to their efficiency.
