Precision temperature control of Stirling-cycle cryocoolers
SPIE Proceedings, 1994Linear-drive Stirling-cycle cryocoolers designed with non contacting parts are ideal for long-life cryogenic cooling applications. These cryocoolers are light weight, have an almost unbounded operational life, and require no expensive ground handling equipment or procedures. One of the challenges in applying these refrigerators to sensitive instruments

Regenerative characteristics of magnetic or gas Stirling refrigeration cycle [PDF]
A general criterion to distinguish whether a Stirling refrigeration cycle possesses the condition of perfect regeneration is given. It is proven using the criterion that a Stirling refrigeration cycle using a simple paramagnetic or ferromagnetic material

External combustion engine with Stirling open cycle
Proceedings of the 24th Intersociety Energy Conversion Engineering Conference, 2003An open-cycle engine approximating the Stirling cycle but retaining external combustion is being developed. The Stirling engine is being built on a motorcycle V-engine; however, the heat exchangers have been designed from scratch. Some thermodynamic considerations justifying the use of the open cycle are presented.

Application of Stirling Cycle Generators in Production Operations
CIPC/SPE Gas Technology Symposium 2008 Joint Conference, 2008Abstract Clean, inexpensive, and reliable on-site electric power generation for remote wellsites is an emerging need. There is a growing demand for electric power sources in the range of ½ to 1.5 kW to run pumping units and pumps on liquid loaded gas wells.

Small Stirling Cycle Convertors
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2005The Stirling convertor concept continues to be a viable potential candidate for various space power applications at electrical power levels ranging from greater than 100 KW to on the order of 10+watts. Various development efforts, both in the past and currently underway, have clearly demonstrated the potential for long operating life of this concept ...

Anatomy of the Stirling Engine Cycle
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1993Conditions are isolated for thermodynamic processes in two Stirling cycle machines to be identical. The conditions form the basis for the concept of ‘functional similarity’. Using the similarity conditions the designer may scale the detailed gas circuit specification of a viable Stirling engine to a derivative design of different size, crankshaft speed,

Theoretical Performance of Stirling Cycle Engines
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1965<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper is supplementary to an earlier presentation of a generalized theoretical analysis of the Stirling engine cycle developed by Finkelstein. The theory is complex and the final equations do not have closed solutions. Only one numerical result was given with the original presentation of the theory.

An approach to the analysis of regenerators of stirling-cycle machines
International Journal of Refrigeration, 1992Abstract The governing equations of the regenerator of Stirling-cycle machines are derived by using the Lagrangian method in terms of the displacement of the displacer, so that time does not appear in the equations. A simplifying assumption is made that the heat transfer coefficient, based on the displacement of the displacer rather than time, is ...

Stirling-cycle cryocooler active vibration control
Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Control and Applications, 2002A cryogenic cooler capable of continuously maintaining the required cryogenic temperature is one of the critical elements enabling space-borne surveillance sensors to detect cold objects against a space background or warm objects against an Earth background.
