Miniature stirling cycle cooler

Cryogenics, 1987
Abstract A miniature split Stirling cycle refrigerator, providing over 1 W of cooling power at 80 K is described. It is an unlubricated wear-free machine with long operating life, high reliability and high efficiency.

The Stirling cycle and Carnot’s theorem

European Journal of Physics, 2019
Abstract Carnot’s theorem is often misunderstood and not well known in its various forms. When comprehended correctly in its ‘strong form’ Carnot’s theorem precludes any other reversible cycle from matching the efficiency of a Carnot cycle when operating clockwise between the same two temperature extremes.

Thermodynamic analysis of the Stirling cycle

Cryogenics, 1988
Abstract The thermodynamic analysis of the Stirling cycle presented here accounts for the effects of two important design parameters, namely dead space and imperfect regeneration. The definition of the refrigerating efficiency introduced here ensures a fruitful comparison of cycle performance with dead volume and without dead volume.

Precision temperature control of Stirling-cycle cryocoolers

SPIE Proceedings, 1994
Linear-drive Stirling-cycle cryocoolers designed with non contacting parts are ideal for long-life cryogenic cooling applications. These cryocoolers are light weight, have an almost unbounded operational life, and require no expensive ground handling equipment or procedures. One of the challenges in applying these refrigerators to sensitive instruments

The Stirling Cycle Engine

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1963
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The history of the Stirling engine is briefly reviewed, together with the theory of the engine, and the Stirling cycle. The Stirling and Carnot cycles are compared. The Stirling engine and its operation are discussed, and several recommendations are made, among which: the output work would be increased by ...

External combustion engine with Stirling open cycle

Proceedings of the 24th Intersociety Energy Conversion Engineering Conference, 2003
An open-cycle engine approximating the Stirling cycle but retaining external combustion is being developed. The Stirling engine is being built on a motorcycle V-engine; however, the heat exchangers have been designed from scratch. Some thermodynamic considerations justifying the use of the open cycle are presented.

An Analysis of the Stirling-Cycle Refrigerator

1969
Although there can be many configurations for a Stirling-cycle refrigerator, the two-cylinder type, as shown In Fig. 1, is most useful for analysis purposes because it represents the most general case. It consists of two cylinders which receive or expel gas through an adjacent heat exchanger. These exchangers are then connected by a regenerator.

Small Stirling Cycle Convertors

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2005
The Stirling convertor concept continues to be a viable potential candidate for various space power applications at electrical power levels ranging from greater than 100 KW to on the order of 10+watts. Various development efforts, both in the past and currently underway, have clearly demonstrated the potential for long operating life of this concept ...

Anatomy of the Stirling Engine Cycle

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1993
Conditions are isolated for thermodynamic processes in two Stirling cycle machines to be identical. The conditions form the basis for the concept of ‘functional similarity’. Using the similarity conditions the designer may scale the detailed gas circuit specification of a viable Stirling engine to a derivative design of different size, crankshaft ...
