Regional Shopping Objectives in British Grocery Retail Transactions Using Segmented Topic Models

open access: yesApplied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding the customer behaviours behind transactional data has high commercial value in the grocery retail industry. Customers generate millions of transactions every day, choosing and buying products to satisfy specific shopping needs.

Boolean complexes for Ferrers graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper we provide an explicit formula for calculating the boolean number of a Ferrers graph. By previous work of the last two authors, this determines the homotopy type of the boolean complex of the graph. Specializing to staircase shapes, we show

On Stirling numbers and Euler sums

open access: yesJournal of Computational and Applied Mathematics, 1997
In this paper, we propose another yet generalization of Stirling numbers of the first kind for noninteger values of their arguments. We discuss the analytic representations of Stirling numbers through harmonic numbers, the generalized hypergeometric function and the logarithmic beta integral.

One‐Step Electrodeposition of Iron Oxyhydroxide Onto 3D Porous Graphene Substrates for on Chip Asymmetric Micro‐Supercapacitors

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, Volume 8, Issue 3, March 2025.
A micro‐supercapacitor with electrodeposited iron oxyhydroxide (FeOOH) as the negative electrode and birnessite manganese oxide (MnO2) as the positive electrode achieves a 2 V working voltage, stable cycling in an aqueous electrolyte, and high energy and power densities of 21 μWh cm‐2 and 2.5 mW cm‐2 respectively.

Generalized Tepper’s Identity and Its Application

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
The aim of this paper is to study the Tepper identity, which is very important in number theory and combinatorial analysis. Using generating functions and compositions of generating functions, we derive many identities and relations associated with the ...

Exploring the landscape of GenAI and education literature: A taxonomy of themes and sub‐themes

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract The research landscape surrounding Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and education is rapidly expanding, characterised by a dynamic array of themes and sub‐themes. This paper aims to construct a comprehensive taxonomy that categorises the current literature on the integration of GenAI in educational settings.

The Stirling Numbers and Polynomials [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society, 1918
If we write the productin the formthe coefficients have been called by Professor Nielsen (following Thiele) the Stirling Numbers of the First Species, because James Stirling, in his Methodus Differentialis (1730), was the first writer to draw attention to their use, and furnished a small table of their initial values.

How Cooperatives Embed Circularity in Their Business Models and Governance—Results From an International Survey

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cooperatives as a democratic form of economic organization are an emerging focus in research on the social dimensions of circular economy. However, there is no international database on cooperatives and circular economy, impeding systematic analysis.

Combinatorics and Boson normal ordering: A gentle introduction

open access: yes, 2007
We discuss a general combinatorial framework for operator ordering problems by applying it to the normal ordering of the powers and exponential of the boson number operator.

On stirling numbers of the second kind

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, 1969
AbstractWe first find inequalities between the Stirling numbers S(n, r) for fixed n, then introduce functions L and U such that L(n, r)≤S(n, r)≤U(n, r), and finally obtain the asymptotic value n/log n for the value of r for which S(n, r) is maximal.
