An improved orthopaedic stirrup
Injury, 1979A single RPH universal stirrup covers the many types of traction needed in orthopaedic practice. It reduces the torque load on the Steinmann pin, thereby diminishing the rate of loosening of the pin in the bone. From our experience with the stirrup at the Royal Perth Hospital, savings in ward costs can be achieved by shortening the time in hospital and

The Earliest Avar-Age Stirrups, Or The "Stirrup Controversy" Revisited
2008At the center of the "stirrup controversy" was the question of whether technological innovation is a cause or an effect. In various articles, Bernard Bachrach has made it clear that although the stirrup became known in (western) Europe by A.D. 700, it had no military impact for another couple of centuries or more.

Detailing of Stirrup Reinforcement
ACI Structural Journal, 1989This paper addresses the detailing of stirrup reinforcement for shear. First, the function of the stirrups in members under high shear streses is explained by means of truss models. Next, the results of an experimental program evaluating stirrup details used in current practice are presented.
