STM in Biology

1991
Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and local probe methods in general offer attractive capabilities for investigations of macromolecules: To observe and study individual objects or molecules in their natural environment, to follow and control molecular processes, and to modify matter on a molecular level.

STM in Electrochemistry

1992
The local investigation of electrode surfaces and processes by structure-sensitive probing techniques has become an important topic in electrochemistry, since most practically relevant electrochemical systems are characterized by structural and chemical inhomogeneities of the electrode-electrolyte interface. Such inhomogeneities can influence the local

STM on Metals

1992
This chapter presents a review of studies of clean metal surfaces by scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. The operating principles of the scanning tunneling microscope for small metallic corrugations are explained. Various spectroscopies are described and compared with theory. Some examples of past accomplishments on metal surfaces are given.
