Stochastic actor‐oriented models for network change
The Journal of Mathematical Sociology, 1996A class of models is proposed for longitudinal network data. These models are along the lines of methodological individualism: actors use heuristics to try to achieve their individual goals, subject to constraints. The current network structure is among these constraints.

The increase of equity joint ventures in the terminal container industry is an established phenomenon, which has been extensively analysed in the port management literature. However, studies have mainly focused on the expansion strategies of international terminal operators and equity venture networks at global level, neglecting their effects on port ...

Stochastic actor-oriented modeling for studying homophily and social influence in OSS projects
Empirical Software Engineering, 2016Open Source Software projects are communities in which people "learn the ropes" from each other. The social and technical activities of developers evolve together, and as they link to each other they get organized in a network of changing socio-technical connections.

Bounded confidence and negative influence are two of the most important micro-level mechanisms employed in computational models of opinion dynamics to explain polarization of opinions. However, empirical evidence of both mechanisms is debatable. Two common limitations in existing empirical studies are (1) the limited external validity of laboratory ...

The dynamics of individual firms’ behaviors and the evolution of interfirm network mutually affect each other, and its observation is the consequence of various effects originating from different mechanisms. To untangle these intertwined effects and to quantify how firms interact with their trading partners, we apply the stochastic actor-oriented model

Snijders (1996): Stochastic Actor-oriented Models for Network Change

Stochastic actor-oriented (SAO) models are a family of models for network dynamics that enable researchers to test multiple, often competing explanations for network change and estimate the extent and relative power of various influences on network evolution.

Terminals are strategic assets in ports, as junction node between the "sea" and "land" phases along the logistics supply chain. Thanks to the privatization and deregulation of the port industry, these strategic assets have increasingly attracted the interest of global players, who aim to consolidate their market position through horizontal and vertical
