Stochastic analysis of the capacity of two parallel footings on a thin sand layer
Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Geotechnical Engineering, 2019This paper presents a study on the stochastic bearing capacity of two parallel strip footings supported on a heterogeneous sand layer confined by a rigid base. Variability of the sand is represented by a truncated normal distribution function of its friction angle to produce a geostatistical equivalent to the deterministic bearing capacity.

Scenario-based Stochastic Capacity Planning Model and Decision Risk Analysis
Systems Engineering - Theory & Practice, 2009Abstract To study the capacity planning problem under uncertainty in which market demand and product price are stochastic, multi period capacity planning model based on scenario was investigated in this paper. Two models were proposed: one is a prearranged planning model in which the capacity investment plan do not change with the stochastic market ...

Co-simulation strategy of PV hosting capacity applying a stochastic analysis
2017 IEEE Workshop on Power Electronics and Power Quality Applications (PEPQA), 2017The aim of this study is to present the implementation of a co-simulation methodology to define the hosting capacity when integrating (photovoltaic panels) PVs into a distribution system. The paper introduces the benefits to using DSSim-PC and Matlab as powerful tools when having certain variables such as forecasting estimation, load profiles and ...

Relay-assisted Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is an enhanced technology for D2D communication. With relay nodes' assistances, the communication distance of the D2D pair is extended and the quality of communication can be improved. This paper focuses on the achievable transmission capacity of relay-assisted D2D network while keeping a low outage ...

Technology choice with stochastic demands and dynamic capacity allocation: A two‐product analysis
Journal of Operations Management, 1995AbstractIn this paper we examine issues related to technology choice and capacity expansion in an environment characterized by two product families with stochastic demands. The motivation for our work comes from developments in modern technologies such as FMS and CIM that provide considerable operational flexibility.

Stochastic Analysis of Logistics Capacity in Disaster Response Networks
2018Quickly deploying relief items is key to reducing a population’s burden in case of sudden onset disasters. Emergency response organizations, such as FEMA or local and state agencies hold a strategic stockpile of critical relief items and contract for contingency stock in preparation for emergencies.

The lack of experimental studies on the mechanical behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) haunched beams leads to difficulties in statistical and reliability analyses. This study performs stochastic and reliability analyses of the ultimate shear capacity of RC haunched beams based on nonlinear finite element analysis.

The service capacities of a source peer at different times in a peer-to-peer (P2P) network exhibit temporal correlation. Unfortunately, there is no analytical result which clearly characterizes the expected download time from a source peer with stochastic and time-varying service capacity.
