A scalable solver for a stochastic, hybrid cellular automaton model of personalized breast cancer therapy [PDF]

open access: hybridInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering, 2021
AbstractMathematical modeling and simulation is a promising approach to personalized cancer medicine. Yet, the complexity, heterogeneity and multi‐scale nature of cancer pose significant computational challenges. Coupling discrete cell‐based models with continuous models using hybrid cellular automata (CA) is a powerful approach for mimicking ...

Mechanisms of stochastic onset and termination of atrial fibrillation studied with a cellular automaton model [PDF]

open access: hybridJournal of The Royal Society Interface, 2017
Mathematical models of cardiac electrical excitation are increasingly complex, with multiscale models seeking to represent and bridge physiological behaviours across temporal and spatial scales. The increasing complexity of these models makes it computationally expensive to both evaluate long term (more than 60 s) behaviour and determine sensitivity of

Transfer-matrix density-matrix renormalization group for stochastic models: the Domany-Kinzel cellular automaton [PDF]

open access: greenJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 2001
Summary: We apply the transfer-matrix density-matrix renormalization group (TMRG) to a stochastic model, the Domany-Kinzel cellular automaton, which exhibits a nonequilibrium phase transition in the directed percolation universality class. Estimates for the stochastic time evolution, phase boundaries and critical exponents can be obtained with high ...

Properties of a Finite Stochastic Cellular Automaton Toy Model of Earthquakes [PDF]

open access: hybridActa Geophysica, 2015
Finite version of Random Domino Automaton — a recently proposed toy model of earthquakes — is investigated in detail. Respective set of equations describing stationary state of the FRDA is derived and compared with infinite case. It is shown that for a system of large size, these equations are coincident with RDA equations.

Phase diagram of a stochastic cellular automaton with long-range interactions [PDF]

open access: greenPhysica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1998
We introduce a stochastic cellular automaton with power law spatial decaying long-range interactions. In some limit this model reduces to the Domany-Kinzel cellular automaton. Monte Carlo and mean field calculations of the phase diagram of the model for different ranges of interactions are compared.

Analytical Description of the Diffusion in a Cellular Automaton with the Margolus Neighbourhood in Terms of the Two-Dimensional Markov Chain

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
The one-parameter two-dimensional cellular automaton with the Margolus neighbourhood is analyzed based on considering the projection of the stochastic movements of a single particle. Introducing the auxiliary random variable associated with the direction

Reaction-diffusion in a growing 3D domain of skin scales generates a discrete cellular automaton

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
The adult ocellated lizard skin colour pattern is effectively generated by a stochastic cellular automaton (CA) of skin scales. Here authors use reaction diffusion (RD) numerical simulations in 3D on realistic lizard skin geometries and demonstrate that ...

Emergence of sector and spiral patterns from a two-species mutualistic cross-feeding model.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
The ubiquitous existence of microbial communities marks the importance of understanding how species interact within the community to coexist and their spatial organization.
