Is acquisition‐related foreign direct investment during an economic crisis detrimental for domestic innovation?

open access: yesThe Scandinavian Journal of Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract We study how acquisition‐related foreign direct investment during economic crises affects R&D investments and the direction of innovation of target firms, compared with acquisitions made during periods of strong economic growth. Using a panel of Spanish firms, we find that foreign multinationals cherry‐pick the best domestic firms ...

AI in chemical engineering: From promise to practice

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 72, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) in chemical engineering has moved from promise to practice: physics‐aware (gray‐box) models are gaining traction, reinforcement learning complements model predictive control (MPC), and generative AI powers documentation, digitization, and safety workflows.

Population Changes and Spatial Segregation Dynamics in Southern European Urban Areas: The Case of Messina

open access: yesPopulation, Space and Place, Volume 32, Issue 5, July 2026.
ABSTRACT European countries have experienced significant transformations in their urban populations, with a resurgence of the residential segregation challenges. Yet, empirical analyses focusing on spatial dynamics within urban areas and between the main urban places, along with the changes in demographic profiles of populations, remain rare. The study

Solving Stochastic Collocation Systems with Algebraic Multigrid

open access: yes, 2010
Stochastic collocation methods facilitate the numerical solution of partial differential equations (PDEs) with random data and give rise to long sequences of similar discrete linear systems.

Respiratory Organ‐on‐a‐Chip for Disease Modeling: From Architecture to Functional Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 23, 19 June 2026.
Respiratory organ‐on‐a‐chip (ROC) models capture key mechanical and cellular cues of the human respiratory system, enabling quantitative dissection of disease mechanisms. This review links ROC architectures to disease modeling, functional integration, and commercialization, and proposes a decision framework that aligns model complexity with mechanistic

A RBF partition of unity collocation method based on a finite difference scheme to solve parabolic stochastic partial differential equations

open access: yesپژوهش‌های ریاضی, 2021
Meshfree methods based on radial basis functions (RBFs) are popular tools for the numerical solution of parabolic stochastic partial differential equations (PSPDEs).

RAMS: Residual‐Based Adversarial‐Gradient Moving Sample Method for Scientific Machine Learning in Solving Partial Differential Equations

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, Volume 2, Issue 3, June 2026.
We propose a residual‐based adversarial‐gradient moving sample (RAMS) method for scientific machine learning that treats samples as trainable variables and updates them to maximize the physics residual, thereby effectively concentrating samples in inadequately learned regions.

‎A spectral collocation method‎ for solving stochastic fractional integro-differential equation [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics and Computational Sciences
In this paper‎, ‎a numerical scheme based on shifted Vieta-Lucas polynomials is utilised to solve mentioned equation‎. ‎The main characteristic of the presented method is to approximate Brownian motion with help of the Gauss-Legendre quadrature‎, ‎which ...

Numerical simulation of a Reverberation Chamber with a stochastic collocation method

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Physique, 2009
An original numerical modelling of Mode Stirred Reverberation Chamber used in Electromagnetic Compatibility is proposed. This method relies on an analogy between a reverberation chamber and an enclosure whose walls' conductivity is randomly characterised. The distribution law of this parameter is obtained by measurements.
