Consensus Formation and Change are Enhanced by Neutrality

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neutral agents are shown to enhance both the formation and overturning of consensus in collective decision‐making. A general mathematical model and experiments with locusts and humans reveal that neutrality enables robust consensus via simple interactions and accelerates consensus change by reducing effective population size.

Mechanostimulatory Cues Determine Intestinal Fibroblast Fate and Profibrotic Remodeling in a Physiodynamic Human Gut‐on‐a‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A healthy gut barrier shields underlying fibroblasts from luminal shear forces, illustrating that “good fences make good neighbors.” Barrier damage exposes fibroblasts to shear stress, inducing cell death and the emergence of stress‐adapted, profibrotic fibroblasts. Sustained shear exposure promotes the formation of stiff aggregates of mechanoadapative

Testing Distributional Inequalities and Asymptotic Bias [PDF]

open access: yes
When Barret and Donald (2003) in Econometrica proposed a consistent test of stochastic dominance, they were silent about the asymptotic unbiasedness of their tests against √n-converging Pitman local alternatives.

Structural Eigenmodes of the Brain to Improve the Source Localization of EEG: Application to Epileptiform Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Geometry and connectivity are complementary structures, which have demonstrated their ability to represent the brain's functional activity. This study evaluates geometric and connectome eigenmodes as biologically informed constraints for EEG source localization.

Spatial Comparisons of Poverty and Inequality in Living Standards in Malawi [PDF]

open access: yes
The paper looks at poverty and inequality across areas in Malawi. The focus is on both monetary (consumption) and non monetary (health and education) dimensions of well being.

Pseudo Stochastic Dominance. Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The aim of this work is to show that on certain ocasions classic decision rules used in the context of options (Stochastic Dominance criteria and Mean-Variance rules) do not provide a selection of one specific option over the other, therefore, the need of working with other criteria that can help us in our choice.

Maternal Preconception Antibiotic Exposure Disrupts Microbial Succession: A Transgenerational Risk for Offspring Gut Mucosal Immaturity and Colitis Susceptibility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that maternal antibiotic exposure prior to conception disrupts intergenerational gut microbial succession. By enhancing maternal‐offspring microbial transmission, altering microbial developmental trajectories and increasing selective pressures during community assembly, these disturbances lead to persistent gut mucosal immaturity and

Stochastic Dominance Analysis of iShares [PDF]

open access: yes
Country indices as represented by iShares exhibit non-normal return distributions with both skewness and kurtosis. Davidson and Duclos (2000) and Memmel (2003) provide procedures for determining the statistical significance of stochastic dominance ...
