Coupled Finite Volume and Finite Element Method Analysis of a Complex Large-Span Roof Structure

open access: yes, 2017
The main goal of this paper is to present coupled Computational Fluid Dynamics and structural analysis for the precise determination of wind impact on internal forces and deformations of structural elements of a longspan roof structure. The Finite Volume

Mixing‐Driven Defects and Composition Evolution in Multi‐Material Metal Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Operando synchrotron X‐ray imaging coupled with high‐fidelity multiphysics modeling uncovers how inter‐material mixing reshapes keyhole dynamics and drives distinct pore‐formation pathways in multi‐material laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). Composition‐dependent instabilities trigger defects, whereas rescanning suppresses porosity and homogenizes Cu ...

Finite Difference Approximation for Linear Stochastic Partial Differential Equations with Method of Lines

open access: yes
A stochastic partial differential equation, or SPDE, describes the dynamics of a stochastic process defined on a space-time continuum. This paper provides a new method for solving SPDEs based on the method of lines (MOL).

Projection schemes for stochastic partial differential equations

open access: yes, 2009
The focus of the present work is to develop stochastic reduced basis methods (SRBMs) for solving partial differential equations (PDEs) defined on random domains and nonlinear stochastic PDEs (SPDEs).

Beyond Percolation: Graphene‐Enabled Network Reinforcement Enhances Thermal Transport in Paraffin Phase‐Change Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Expanded‐graphite/graphene‐nanoplatelet hybrids deliver a near‐order‐of‐magnitude thermal‐conductivity enhancement in paraffin phase‐change materials. A microCT‐informed 3D modeling framework resolves the percolating EG backbone and captures sub‐voxel GNP enrichment, quantitatively linking microstructure to heat flow and revealing a graphene‐enabled ...

Multigrid Algorithms for Stochastic Finite Element Computations

open access: yes, 2010
Mathematical models of engineering systems and physical processes typically take the form of a partial differential equation (PDE). Variability or uncertainty on coefficients of a PDE can be expressed by introducing random variables, random fields or ...

Stochastic Finite Element Modelling of Fibre-Metal Laminates

open access: yes, 2004
Fibre-metal laminates are expected to have larger variations in material properties compared to traditional aerospace materials such as aluminum. Effects of such variations are not taken into account in current numerical models.

Sub‐Terahertz Memristor Switches Using MoS2 by Liquid–Liquid Interface Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces application‐ready sub‐terahertz memristor switches fabricated from electrochemically exfoliated MoS2 nanosheets assembled at a liquid–liquid interface. The devices exhibit robust unipolar resistive switching, low insertion loss, and high isolation across 10–110 GHz.

High-Order Spectral Stochastic Finite Element Analysis of Stochastic Elliptical Partial Differential Equations

open access: yes, 2013
This study presents an experiment of improving the performance of spectral stochastic finite element method using high-order elements. This experiment is implemented through a two-dimensional spectral stochastic finite element formulation of an elliptic ...
