Estimating the Technical Improvement of Energy Efficiency in the Automotive Industry—Stochastic and Deterministic Frontier Benchmarking Approaches

open access: yesEnergies, 2014
The car manufacturing industry, one of the largest energy consuming industries, has been making a considerable effort to improve its energy intensity by implementing energy efficiency programs, in many cases supported by government research or financial ...

Metal‐Enhanced Charge Transport and its Mechanism in Atomically Precise Ruthenium Single‐Molecule Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An atomically precise platform was developed for investigating single‐molecule charge transport. This innovative platform enables the creation of highly uniform molecular devices using ruthenium‐based molecules. It reveals a significant enhancement in molecular conductance due to the metallic ruthenium center and a unique barrier‐lowering effect during

Measurement of the technical efficiency of small pineapple farmers in Santander, Colombia: a stochastic frontier approach

open access: yesRevista de Economia e Sociologia Rural, 2013
The objective of this study is to estimate the levels of technical efficiency of the small pineapple farmers of Santander, Colombia, using the stochastic frontier approach. In addition, this study attempts to determine whether the acreage and some of the

Large‐Scale Genomics Reveals Three‐Source Ancestry and Layered Adaptation to High Altitude in Tibetan Chickens

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Whole‐genome analysis of 1,054 chickens reveals three ancestral sources (NWC, SYA, and SHF) with distinct temporal entry patterns into the Tibetan Plateau. Route‐specific selection scans, calibrated against a demographic null, suggest complementary functional enrichments—vascular homeostasis (NWC), calcium signaling and cardiac adaptation (SYA), and ...

Productivity Spillovers from Foreign Direct Investment: What If Productivity is No Longer a Black Box?

open access: yesThe South East Asian Journal of Management, 2013
While the positive productivity spillover from Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to domestic owned firms in host countries is unequivocally emphasized in theory, the empirical evidence is contradictory.

Frontiers of Stochastically Nondominated Portfolios [PDF]

open access: yesEconometrica, 2003
We consider the problem of constructing a portfolio of finitely many assets whose returns are described by a discrete joint distribution. We propose mean-risk models that are solvable by linear programming and generate portfolios whose returns are nondomi- nated in the sense of second-order stochastic dominance.

Advances and Perspectives in Graphene‐Based Quantum Dots Enabled Neuromorphic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Graphene‐based QDs are zero‐dimensional carbon nanomaterials with pronounced quantum confinement and tunable electronic structures. Herein, we summarize their synthesis strategies and functionalization methods, and highlight their functional roles and operating mechanisms in devices, as well as recent advances in neuromorphic electronics. We anticipate

STAID: A Self‐Refining Deep Learning Framework for Spatial Cell‐Type Deconvolution with Biologically Informed Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
STAID is a unified deep learning framework that couples iterative pseudo‐spot refinement with neural network training through a feedback loop and exploits gene co‐expression information to model higher‐order interactions, achieving accurate and robust cell‐type deconvolution in spatial transcriptomics.

Stochastic Frontier meets Breakdown Frontier

open access: yes
This paper studies sensitivity analysis of Stochastic Frontier Models. We elaborate relaxations of the baseline assumptions in the Stochastic Frontier Models and characterize the identified set under this relaxations. Furthermore, we derive the breakdown frontier for a relevant parameter of interest, the average inefficiency of a production unit.
